Into the Text a topic, gather and words we read. Today we are going to do the

consider the there are no words! So we will write the words for
potential audience, the story! We are going to have to use our skills

appropriate genre. Also, can anyone tell me the structure of a story?
Yes they have a beginning, middle and end. So
when we write our stories we need to make sure
we include a begging where we introduce the
characters and setting, the middle which
introduces the plot or problem, and the end which
wraps up the story.

she is smiling despite her black eye.

WE DO: Now we are going to do the same thing

but with this picture book. This picture book is
different than other picture books, because it is
only pictures. So we are going to write the story!
On your paper, write down details you see in the
picture.
Now with a neighbor turn and talk and share
some of the details you see in this picture. Call on
students
Also notice the emotion of the turtle, take a close
look at his face. What do infer his emotion is? I
think he looks like he hears something, he is
looking around and looks a little scared even.
Continue to go through entire text and note
details on sheet.
Drafting the Text I DO: Now we are going to start drafting out story.
So starting on the very first page, I am going to

looked around, thinking he heard something. He
began to get a little scared as the noise was
getting louder."

So thats the story I have written about the first

page. Notice how I introduced the setting, and
outlined emotions and used descriptive words? So
if I read this text without the pictures, you would
still be able to see something similar in your
head.

WE DO: Lets try the next couple pages together.

So what were some of the words we wrote down
for this page? What do the emotions of the frogs
look like? What about the turtle? What do you
hear when you see this picture? Maybe you hear
some croaking from the frogs?

So lets form the story together, on the last page

we left off with the turtle scared on a log. I am
going to use a transition word because the story
has definitely changed.

Suddenly, the frog had to duck his head because

he was almost hit by a floating frog on a lily pad.
The whole pond was being swarmed by frogs
floating on lily pads. They croaked happily as
they floated over the pond."

students create however offering different ideas
and questioning them to pull out additional
details or more descriptive words.

Let students work in pairs for the next 4 pages

until page reading 4:38 AM.

YOU DO: Now the last bit until the end you will
write on your own. Use the same process we did
for the rest of the book. Look at all the details in
the picture, use some of our transitional words,
descriptive words, and infer the emotions of
characters!
