Acting Troop Assignment Sheet

What are we doing?

For this project students will work in groups to recreate and act out a critical scene from
Antigone. Students will read the scene or section that they will be performing, re-write
challenging or confusing parts of the text to make them clearer, and finally dress up and perform
the scene for the class. Students will be responsible for creating a script so the class can follow
along and annotate as scenes are being presented, and for writing a rationale to explain the
creative choices made for the presentation.

Requirements:
1. Scene script including stage direction if it is critical to meaning. The length of the script
will vary because of the scene and creative choices made. (5-8 minutes)
2. Rationale of the creative choices made in the script. (1-2 pages)
3. The presentation will be to the class. All students must participate in the presentation of
the scene. However, not everyone has to act (characters vary by scene anyway). Students
who do not have lines in the presentation should actively participate in other ways.
i. How can these other students participate?
Brainstorm ideas below with the class.
4. Peer Reflection: You will evaluate you and your peers by answering the following
questions. These will be turned in confidentially to me.
a. What were your responsibilities during this project?
b. What did each of your peers do?
c. Give you and your peers a score out of ten for the work that they contributed.

When is it due?
The materials for this project will be due on the day that you present. There will be some time
given in class to work on this project. Not all of the groups will present on the same day, so not
all of your materials will be due at the same time. I know it is tempting to sign up for the later
presentations so that you have more time to create to work, but plan strategically. Some group
members may have time commitments on the other presentation days. There also may be other
factors to consider. Regardless of the date you present, each group will have THE SAME
AMOUNT OF WORK TIME in class. Therefore, creating time to finish this project will be up to
you. The time given to you in class should be plenty to finish most of the project. If you need
help with the close reading process I am always available for a meeting with your group.
