Teachers involved - Marcus Cummins, Xavier Dowling

What was observed: Year 11 Psychology class.

Lightening the room with a relaxed yet stern attitude to start the classroom.
Listing everything that the students will be doing throughout the class
Short, sharp instructions. A mix of different types of activities. Not letting the class
become bogged down one aspect and then students becoming bored.
Use of different resources and techniques to maintain engagement. i.e. textbook,
I.C.T, classroom discussion, think pair share.
Moving around the classroom to keep energy in the classroom.
Varying his tone, volume and projected energy to keep students focused on him and
content.
Using real-life situations to make content relatable to students lives.
Classroom management and standards. Even when students are left to discuss/talk
freely, they were discussing the homework and the content.

What did I learn?

It is greatly important to have the classroom set up and organised before the students to
enter the classroom. Allowing classroom discussion and talking with the students, not at or
down to the them gives students the ability to feel involved and therefore interested and
engaged in the learning.
By breaking off into pairs, allows students to move around the classroom and re-energise
the students before re-engaging them back on task.
It is important to differentiate activities to allow students to stay focused with the class and
the level of work so that they are engaged for longer periods. The use of different resources
keeps the students interested in the content of that class.
Classroom management plays a major role in holding the motivation and engagement of
students. If the classroom is well managed it allows students to stay focused and engaged
because there is no outside distractions.
