VANE AND WIRE MESH

SEPARATORS
Vent

Vane pack

Scope and applications Dry gas

Vane Separators and Wire Mesh Separators are designed

to remove free liquids from any gas stream, by efficient
yet inexpensive means. The correct choice of the most
Gas with
appropriate separator type is the result of careful suspended
consideration of duty conditions and customer's liquids
requirements.

Typical applications are:

! Removal of free liquids in any pipeline system, to

improve pipeline flow efficiency and to reduce
Dry gas pressure drop due to wet pipe walls. Sump
! Removal of free liquids ahead of dry desiccant beds to
improve desiccant life.
! Removal of free water from steam pipe lines to reduce
pressure drop and to protect turbines and to decrease
power loss.
Wire mesh ! Removal and recovery of glycol/amine downstream
pack of gas absorbers.
! Removal of adsorption oil from gas leaving adsorption oil towers. Drain
! Removal of lubricant oil from exhaust steam.
! Removal of condensate from gas compressor after-coolers. Vane separator

How they work

The working principle is the impingement separation, involving the combined actions of
Gas with inertial forces, gravitational forces, gas stream and surface tension. More in detail:
suspended
liquids
! For vane type:
The inlet gas stream is forced through a special package of parallel zigzag deflected
plates, thus causing repeated directional changes of the gas stream. In doing so the
liquid particles present in the gas impinge and are deposited on the plate walls or
trapped in the vane hooks. Liquid drops are then piped down to the lower section of the
vessel.

Drain ! For wire mesh type:

When the gas stream carrying entrained liquid droplets passes through a knitted wire
E-302/e(rev.1)

mesh the inertia of the droplets causes them to contact the wire surface, to coalesce and
Wire mesh separator ultimately to drain as large droplets. The entrapped liquid is then collected in the lower
section of the vessel.
The efficiency is 98% of all 5 micron particles and 99.5% of all 10 micron particles.
Features

SIIRTEC NIGI Vane or Wire Mesh Separators consist basically of:

A vessel shell, with heads at both ends, complete with supporting skirt;
Gas inlet, outlet and drain connection flange;
Internal parts including:
- For vane type: a package of parallel zigzag deflected plates, with side and part
plates, retainer rods and drain connections;
- For wire mesh type: a knitted wire mesh pad.
A skid or service skid, if required;
Complete set of automatic controls for unattended operation, if required.

Materials

The Separator body is generally made of carbon steel, while the Vanes and Wire Meshes
are generally made of stainless steel. However other materials can be used depending
on the service of the Separator.

Design

We can provide a "tailor-made" design of any type of

separator according to any duty requirement.
Vessels can be built in accordance with any international
code (e.g. ASME VIII Div.1, ISPESL, SNCC,
STOOMWEZEN, TV, etc.) depending on Client's request.

Required design information:

Gas characteristics (i.e. molecular weight, density,
viscosity, etc.);
Gas flow rate;
Operating pressure and temperature;
Type of liquid particles to be removed;
Liquid properties (density, viscosity, surface tension,
etc.);
Retention time of liquid;
Vessel design pressure and temperature;
Design code;
Special metallurgical requirements.
