homework, and it was then
collected. The brain dump

Diagnostic
In the previous class, students
created visual representations of
a positive community of unique
voices. With the image, they
also provided captions to define
and described what a
community of unique voices
was. I have looked over the
images and will using them to
guide students understanding of
a classroom of unique voices.

Students will use discussion from
the previous class to inform their
group discussions today. We will
also be doing a vocabulary
activity. They will be working
with a text that has unfamiliar
words. With their peers, they will
identify words in a text that are
difficult and unfamiliar. they will
try to define the terminology
using strategies various
strategies. We will discuss the
terms as a whole class.
Summative
Students will be asked to present
their final presentations in the end
of the unit. The class will then
engage in discussion of their
conversation. Students will then
have to reflect on their growth in
their discussion group throughout
the unit. These reflections will be
collected and will contribute to
the final assessment grade.

Diagnostic
Students completed a plot map
for a new reading in the
previous week. Using their
knowledge of a plot map, they
will apply it to their
understanding of narrative
poems today. They all did
exceptionally well with a short
story so I feel comfortable
introducing narrative poems
today.

in the newspapers they will create
brainstorming activity, and begin
writing their letters. They will
submit a draft of their final
writing assignment at the end of
the class period.

Students will write their own
narrative poem. They will go
over the structure of the poem of
Annabel Lee to as an example
for their own narrative poems.

Students have now completed
rough drafts of a piece of their
writing pieces. They will use a
ratiocination to revise their
writing, getting rid of any run-on
sentences they may see. This
revision will be submitted to
assess whether students are able
to identify the run-on sentences
in their own writing. They will
complete a run-on sentence work
sheet. They will also demonstrate
their understanding of
ratiocination by editing their own
writing.

poems to be published in their

Students will publish a revised
letter based on our unit called
Building a Community of Unique
Voices where students will
express their unique voice in
writing. Students will also publish

Lesson 9
Summative
Students will be giving a succinct presentation of their newspaper to the class. They will describe
their letter, their poem, and their image. They will give a short speech about building community of
unique voices, what it means to them, and how their newspaper captures this concept.
