- Hook: Demonstration of example and Voki
Time: Day 1: 5 minutes
- Behaviour Expectations: Students will raise their hands to ask any questions
1. Explain to students that you have an example of what a research project
might look like. Make sure students understand that this means that they
cant do something. Explain how all the requirements are there for the
assignment and this is a format that they may like to use.
2. I introduced Voki to some students yesterday but to ensure all the class
understands that this is an option show the class. Explain that Voki allows you
to create an avatar that can you can have say whatever you want. Students
are able to create one for their presentation.

will raise their hand if they have questions or need assistance. Students will
use technology for the assignment only. I will circulate the room while they
work to ensure everyone is working and there are no questions as well as to
provide assistance.
1. Students will select which assignment that they want to do and select the
person that they want to do and have their selection approved. Students will
do so by lining up at my desk so it can be recorded. If they require more time
to think about their topic and do a little research, I will circulate the room to
get the remaining topics.
2. Students will then begin their research using the iPad that was assigned to
them. They may also be creating their assignment using the iPad. Some
students may have selected the creative option and will be using sketch
pads/instruments to create their project.

- Culture Assignment
Due: Thursday, April 27th, 2017
- For the past few weeks we have looked at different aspects of Atlantic
Canadian culture through looking at artists, musicians, and authors.
Now its your turn to research and present an example of culture

- Option #1: Research Project

- Select an individual from Atlantic Canada OR the region where you are
from that has contributed to culture in some way; it can be through
music, art, poetry/literature, sports, dance, politics, etc.

- Tasks:

- Explain who your person is and where they are from

- A short summary of their life
- Explain what your person does (are they an artist? Musician? In what
style?)
- Explain a minimum of two examples of their contributions to culture
(Two songs, two paintings, two clips of them in their sport)
- Explain how they contribute to culture and their importance.

- You can use iMovie, PowerPoint, Voki, or any other means to show this
information, just verify it with me first

- You may work individually or in partners.

- You can use someone that we discussed in class but you cannot use
the same examples. Only one person/group is able to do an individual.
YOU MUST HAVE YOUR CHOICE APPROVED BY THE TEACHER

- Option #2: Creative Project

- Select an individual from Atlantic Canada OR the region where you are
from that has contributed to culture in some way; it can be through
music, art, poetry/literature, or dance.

- Tasks:

- Explain who your person is and where they are from

- Recreate a song, a piece of art, a poem/story in their style, or a
dance etc from that person that shows their contribution to culture
- Include a copy of the original piece
- You may work individually or in partners.

- You can use someone that we discussed in class but you cannot use
the same examples. Only one person/group is able to do an individual.
YOU MUST HAVE YOUR CHOICE APPROVED BY THE TEACHER

- Option #3: Your Choice

- If you have another idea for a project that you think will demonstrate
Atlantic Canadian culture or the culture of the region, you can suggest
it. You might want to create a board game that shows Atlantic
Canadian culture or do something completely different.

- If you select this option, you must have your project approved
by the teacher before you start.

- ***ALL PROJECTS WILL BE PRESENTED STARTING ON APRIL

27th***
