Summary:The Government of Belize Press Office issued out a release in regards to the ongoing investigation of the scandal which broke last
week involving former Minister of State in the Immigration Ministry Elvin Penner. Penner was involved in the issuance of a passport to a
Korean national who was detained in Taiwan. The Korean whose name is now known to be Kim Won Hong, is wanted in South Korea for
charges of fraud in which it is alleged that he embezzled millions of dollars from one of that countrys largest firms, SK Shipping Company.
Hong is one of the executive of the company.Hong was behind bars in Taiwan, but he is supposed to send back in South Korea instead he paid
Penner a $120,000 to create fake passport. Kim Won Hong received his passport in less time than the average Belizean would and thats because
Hong had never been to Belize. The Immigration Ministry suspended three officers: Omar Phillips, Sharon Neal-Flowers, and Erwin Robinson
due to pending the completion of the investigation by the Public Service Commission. These three officers allowed a fraud, which is Elvin
Penner, to perpetrated on the system.
