LITERARY NILLUMBIK

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

1. Entrants must be Australian residents as of the closing date. Young poets must be
18 years or younger as of the closing date.

2. Poems and stories must be written in English and must be the original, previously
unpublished work of the entrant. Publication includes paid publication or any type of
online publication. Entries must not have been awarded a prize in another
competition.

3. Up to three stories and three poems can be entered by each writer/poet. Each
entry in the Open category must be accompanied by an entry fee. Cheque or money
order should be made out to Nillumbik Shire Council.

4. Local entrants must live, work or study in the Shire of Nillumbik. Local entries will
also be automatically entered into the Open category.

5. Pen names will be accepted and used if the poem/story is published. Entrants first
and last name must also be provided for administrative purposes.

6. Stories and poems that exceed the story word limit (2,500 words) or poem format
(12-lines) will be deemed ineligible.

7. Entries will not be returned and non-prize winning entries will be destroyed.

8. The Judge(s) reserve the right not to award a prize in a category if they deem no
entry is of sufficient merit to warrant the prize. The Judge(s) decision is final and no
correspondence will be entered into.

9. Copyright of the stories and poems remain the property of the author/poet.

10. Current employees of Nillumbik Shire Council, Nillumbik Shire Councillors and
members of the Alan Marshall Short Story Award Readers Group are not eligible to
enter.

11. Entries must be electronically submitted by 5pm on the closing date and hard
copy entries must be postmarked by the closing date. No late entries will be
accepted.

12. Nillumbik Shire Council reserves the right to retain copies of winning entries and
publish them in the Literary Nillumbik Anthology, on Councils website, social media
including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and in the Arts and Cultural Development
eBulletin and in related promotional material.
