Coordinating conjunction
A conjunction (such as and) that joins two similarly constructed and/or syntactically equal words
or phrases or clauses within a sentence.
The coordinating conjunctions are and, but, for, nor, or, so, yet. Compare with subordinating
conjunctions.
In some cases, as shown in the examples below, a coordinating conjunction may also be used at
the beginning of a new sentence.
2. The squid eyeball stew is so thick that you can eat it with a fork or spoon.
3. Ricky refuses to eat dry cat food, nor will he touch a saucer of squid eyeball stew.
4. I hate to waste a single drop of squid eyeball stew, for it is expensive and time-

Subordinating Conjunction
When a sentence has an independent clause (main clause) and at least one
dependent clause, it is known as a complex sentence. In a complex sentence, the
role of the subordinating conjunction and the dependent clause is to establish a
time, a place, a reason, a condition, a concession, or a comparison for the main
clause. The subordinating conjunction provides the bridge between the main clause
and the dependent clause.
Conjunctions that commonly used is after, although, as, as if, as long as, as soon as,
as though, because, before, even if, even though, how, if, if only, in order that, once,
provided (that), rather than, since, so that, than, that, though, till, unless, until,
whether, when, whenever, where, whereas, wherever, while.
