Textbook: J. Stewart, Calculus Early Transcendentals, 8th Edition
TI-83+ or TI-84+ (Silver Edition preferred/ or COLOR). Calculators
Calculator
with CAS, such as TI-89 or TI-92, are not allowed.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will be helpful for those students majoring in
engineering and mathematics. These fields of study often require a knowledge of
mathematics, including Calculus of Transcendental Functions, Integration Techniques,
Conics, Polar Coordinates, Indeterminate Forms, Improper Integrals, and Infinite Series.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: 1) Upon successful completion of the course, students will
be able to correctly organize and communicate ideas and solutions using basic definitions,
properties, and theorems of second semester calculus.
2) Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to correctly utilize integrals and
infinite series to demonstrate, in writing, logical reasoning processes to solve problems related to
volumes, lengths of curves, and representing functions using polynomials.
.
HOMEWORK: A list of Homework Assignments is provided. Homework will be collected on
the day of each test. Homework should be completed in a QUAD RULED notebook and in
pencil. DEDICATING YOURSELF TO DOING A THOROUGH AND RESPONSIBLE JOB
ON THE HOMEWORK IS THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT COMMITMENT THAT YOU
CAN MAKE TO ENSURE YOUR SUCCESS IN THIS COURSE. The problem
statements must be written down (you may paraphrase word problems). Points may be
deducted for excessively messy work. DO NOT COPY SOLUTIONS FROM THE
SOLUTIONS MANUAL. IF IT IS APPARENT THAT ONE OR MORE PROBLEMS IS
COPIED, YOU MAY RECEIVE A ZERO FOR THE ENTIRE ASSIGNMENT. There are
many resources available to you if you need help with the homework.

EXAMS: There will be four tests and a final examination. DO NOT ASSUME THAT YOU WILL
BE ALLOWED TO TAKE A MAKE-UP TEST IF YOU MISS A TEST. MAKE-UP TESTS WILL BE
GIVEN ONLY IN THE CASE OF A VERIFIABLE EMERGENCY, AND ONLY IF I AM NOTIFIED
ON OR BEFORE THE DAY OF THE TEST. Each test is comprehensive (covers all material).

Grading Procedure Grading Scale

HOMEWORK 4 x 20 80 points 90 - 100 % = 675+ points A
QUIZZES daily 70 points 80 - 89 % = 600+ points B
TESTS 4 x 100 400 points 70 - 79 % = 525+ points C
Final Exam 1 200 points 60 - 69 % = 450+ points D
Total 750 points 0 - 59 % = Below 450 F

LATE WORK: NO LATE HOMEWORK IS RECEIVED. NO MAKE-UP EXAMS ARE GIVEN.

ATTENDANCE: Attendance will be taken. You are expected to attend all class meetings.
Students who are absent for 3 consecutive days or have 10 hours total absences and who fail to
contact the instructor may be dropped from the class. When a student is late (up to 15 min) to class 3
times, it will be counted as 1 absent. It is your responsibility to officially withdraw from a course if you
stop attending. You may or may not be dropped by the instructor for excessive absences.

Once the class has started, students must move forward to fill empty seats in the front of them;
there should be no empty seats in the front of class. Otherwise, the instructor reserves the right to
either (1) ask individuals to move or (2) exercise his right to assign seats.

RESOURCES: There is free tutoring available in the Math Center and in the Learning Center. I
strongly encourage students to utilize these resources and to work together outside of class.
Please come see me outside of class if you have any questions regarding the material or the
course in general. You do not need an appointment to see me during my office hours.

SPECIAL NEEDS: Any student with a disability, who would like to request an academic
accommodation, is responsible for identifying herself/himself to the instructor and to the Disabled
Student Programs and Services (DSPS). To make arrangements for academic accommodations,
contact the Disabled Student Office , or phone (714) 564-6264, TTY (714) 564-6284 for a referral
to the appropriate DSPS Department.

STUDENT HONESTY POLICY: Anyone found to be seeking help from or providing help to
another student on a test will receive a zero on that test. An Academic Misconduct Incident
Report may also be filed with the Dean of Science, Math, and Health Sciences and the Dean of
Students. Any student who has previously received a grade of zero for cheating on a test will receive
a grade of "F" in the course and may not drop the course if a second instance of cheating occurs or
suspected. It is your responsibility to make sure that no one is copying your work.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

For better comprehension of the lecture, please read the sections prior to the lecture.
Feel free to ask questions in the classroom.
Homework, Quizzes and exams should be done in dark pencil.
Please do the examples in the text to understand math concepts involved before doing the
Homework Assignments.
You are encouraged to work additional problems as necessary for a complete understanding of the
material.
You are encouraged to work in groups.
Make sure to get all your questions answered.
As a courtesy to your classmates and professor, you are expected to turn off cell phones and
pagers when you enter class.
Students are expected to be prompt and, barring illness, to attend the entire lecture
(DO NOT DISRUPT THE LECTURE BY WALKING IN LATE or LEAVING EARLY).
You are responsible for any announcements that are made in lectures which you may miss.
If you must stop attending, then withdraw officially by filling out a drop slip in the administration
