PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LUSAKA

As an organization we would like to endorse and back the creation of the

Twenty Percent Generation platform commonly known as TPG, a NAREP idea
that states that all public institutions and agencies will be required by law to set
aside 20 per cent of public procurement contracts for the exclusive benefit of
the youth, women and vulnerable groups.

We therefore urge members of parliament to study this idea and push for a bill
in parliament so that it can be turned into a law. It is important for us to note
that more than 75% of our population is youthful. TPG gives the youth an
opportunity to attend specific trainings in line with their business choice, access
support and receive project oversight until time of payment. Moreover most
young people either run infant businesses or have no business experiences to
enable them compete with superior companies.

It is about time we considered empowering young people, women and

vulnerable groups especially the disabled seriously. TPG initiative is more
effective, inclusive, educative tailored and transparent compared to
empowerment initiatives and funds made available by government.

In the school of leadership serving people defeats invisible political boundaries.

We therefore urge government to consider implementing the TPG initiative. In
the 21st century politics we welcome new ideas regardless of who presents them
if they can better the lives of thousands of people. By implementing this
initiative, direct new jobs for youths will be created.

What Narep has demonstrated has shown the true picture of how an opposition
political party should conduct itself in the 21st century political field. The role

of the opposition is to work with the government of the day by supporting it for
all the developmental projects it is undertaking and offer amicable solutions to
the many pressing problems such as poverty. The opposition parties can make
meaningful contributions through Parliamentary debates in the formulation of
policies for the country. This is important because at the end of the day, these
formulated policies should impact positively in the lives of many people
regardless of political affiliation.

We feel that Opposition parties are part of the governance system of the country
and they should play their role accordingly in the quest to foster peace, unity
and development by providing checks and balances and also contributing
through coming up with progressive idea like TPG.

They should not perceive those in the ruling party as enemies by attacking them
all the time. Old politics have ways of creating enmity, the new politics we need
to practice as a nation should not tolerate such divisions.

Let us always put Zambia first. And this Initiative is an opportunity for us to
show the world our united spirit against poverty by embracing forward moving
ideas. As an organization we have no doubt that TPG will create more new
Jobs. And we have confidence in the leadership of President Lungu that this
initiative will be turned into a law.
