Macbeth Social Media Project

Purposes: Analyze a character and track his/her changes throughout the course of
the play. Apply textual evidence, theme, symbol, and character development
analysis skills.
1. Choose a main character from the play/novel.
a. Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, the Witches, Duncan, Banquo, and
Macduff.
2. Choose a social media cite or internet phenomenon to depict the play.
a. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Memes.
3. Make posts in reverse-chronological order (i.e. in the opposite order of
time) and connect to the book by citing the posts.
a. Posts range from the most recent events to the earliest events. In
other words, your first post would be from Act V and your last post
from Act I. These posts must follow the story line. You are taking on
the persona of a character; however, the post must follow scene
from the play.

Instagram (9):
The characters Instagram page should include:
o A username @_______________
o Profile Photo; Character name under the photo.
o Profile Description: 2 to 3 sentences about the character
o Picture Posts: 6 pictures portraying the characters personality
traits or thoughts. Be creative!!
- Think about #MCM, #WCW, #Selfie, #TBT,
#TransformationTuesday
(Be creative!)
o Descriptions: Write a 1 or 2 sentence caption with each picture
o Cite/Reference: For each post, use (Act, Scene) or page number
to reference where this is relevant to the book.
Facebook (10):
o Cover photo
o Profile Picture of the character
o Simple photos for each of the boxes: about, photos,
friends, links
o Six Posts:
i. At least one like
ii. At least one photo
iii. If the character is present in Act III, scene iii (i.e. The Banquet
Scene), then include a post that reflects the characters
reaction at the banquet.
iv. At least two status posts to show the characters state of
mind or reactions to others state of mind. (e.g. Banquo
watching Macbeths aside in Act I, scene iii.)
o Four Reactions:
i. At least three comments from other characters to the
characters status updates
ii. At least one characters reaction to
the posts.

Memes (12):
Throughout the semester we have been using memes
in our lesson notes
(i.e. a meme is a picture that the internet culture has given a
designated meaning to; (or) a virally-transmitted cultural
symbol or social idea.).
Create 12 memes (using a meme generator
o
online) that depict actions and thoughts of one
or two characters from Macbeth.
Under the meme write:
1. The characters name that is depicted.
2. Which act and scene it is from.
3. Why this is relevant to the story (1-2 lines per
photo)
o Why did you make this picture and
caption? The caption should already be
self-explanatory, but if not, please put
more.
Twitter (8-10):
Create a poster/digital media that depicts a twitter account.

o Write your characters name at the top of the poster board.


o Character Handle. For example,
Hecates twitter handle might be Hecate,
@HeadWitch
o Profile Photo. A picture or illustration
of your character in color. You may draw
the picture and color it, print a color
image, or use magazine images.
o Profile Description. A short description
made up of three adjectives that
describe your character. In addition, give
a location for your character and a
website.
o Tweets. Provide eight to ten feeds of 140 characters or less.
o Cite/Reference: For each post, use (Act, Scene) or page number to reference
where this is relevant to the book.
