I.

The poets, Riley Walker and NatNicole use tone and repetition to show

how new perspectives in life can give someone a sense of redemption.

II. Riley Walker and NatNicole use tone and a shift of tone to show

redemption in their poem.

A. In Sorry by Riley Walker, the poet conveys a sense of redemption

with the line, " For all the mistakes I've made." By using an

ashamed tone, but by also having a shift of tone into more of a

hopeful mood.
1. In the beginning of the poem, Walker uses more dark

and sad words and phrases, but at one point in the

poem the tone shifts. This can be seen by the line,

"But... for all the times I gave a helping hand. I am

proud." The tones that Walker uses give off that

image and feeling of being in an ashamed place but

finally finding hope that pushes a person to see

themselves in a different light.

2. This quote is important because it shows the authors

redemption that she gave herself, by using a shift

from ashamed to a proud and hopeful tone.

B. Shawshank by NatNicole shows a shift of tone from filled with

despair to fulfilled and happy with life. The poet says near the

end, "The hope has taken flight." After previously talking about

life in the poem as "Imprisoned"

1. These quotes that NatNicole use show how the man

in the story finds a new light in the life around him.

He sees the new hope and how life is changing to

become brighter.
2. The shift of tone in this poem shows how the man

finds redemption in his life about the world around

him. At the beginning he sees the despair in the

world, but then gains a new perspective to gives life

a new meaning.
III. In their poems the poets NatNicole and Riley Walker show redemption

in life by using repetition.

A. Walker uses repetition in lines like "I am sorry" and "I am proud"

in her poem Sorry to really emphasize that those lines are

important to the meaning of the poem.

1. The repetition of these lines draw the readers to see

and understand the poem better. Since the lines are

brought up more than once in this poem it shows

that they are very important to show redemption.

2. With the repetition of the sorry and the proud line

you can see when the poem changes. The poet uses

those lines over and over to really give the reader a

sense of redemption that they is trying to express.

B. From the poem Shawshank, poet NatNicole uses repetition in the

beginning of lines like "No light... No hope... No music..." To

emphasize the disparity that the man in the poem has about life

in the beginning.
1. Repetition in this peom really helps to drive In the

point aboutr life having no hope until you finally see

it. The man in the poem cant see the hope in the
beginning as shown by this "No" repetition before the

lines. Near the end he gives life a second chance and

sees the hope, as seen in lines using repetition of

"Now".
2. The poet uses repetition to show the mans

redemption in life and for life. Using words like now,

NatNicole shows how the man has given life a chance

to redeem itself and give him hope.

IV. The subject of redemption that Riley Walker and NatNicole show in

their poems help to portray that life can change and give someone a

new lease on the world once a person truly believes.
