    Calcium is a reactive metal that easily combines with other elements. The most common calcium compound in Malaysia is calcium carbonate (limestone), and the country has many limestone hills that are a source of limestone and marble. Natural sources of calcium compounds include animal shells, bones, teeth, corals, and egg shells. Calcium carbonate does not dissolve in water but reacts with dilute acid to form calcium salts, water, and carbon dioxide. When heated strongly, calcium carbonate decomposes to form calcium oxide and carbon dioxide.
