The training at OFC-MUX station was a study project on OFC backbone. In this
project the objective was to learn about OFC network in place at BSNL. We were
also supposed to familiarize ourselves with the working of various equipments and
monitoring systems like OTDR. During our training at the BSNL OFC-MUX station in
Thane we learned the following in detail:
01. INTRODUCTION :-
Under B.S.N.L., there are 7 Telecom Factories at Kolkata, Kharagpur, Gopalpur (24
Parganas - S), Wright Town - Jabalpur, Bhilai, Mumbai and Richhai - Jabalpur. The factory at
Kolkata is as old as Indian Telegraph. During Second World War, as a measure of dispersal of
activities from Kolkata, the Telegraph Workshop was set up at Wright Town, Jabalpur in 1942.
In 1943, Bombay Telephone Company was acquired and named as Bombay Telephone
Workshop. In 1969, the name of these telegraph workshops and Bombay Telephone Workshop
was re-christianed as “Telecom Factories”.
Over the years Telecom Factory, Wright Town, Jabalpur got surrounded by residential
localities and it became heart of city. With a view to minimise the pollution caused by Coke
Fired Galvanising plant at TF Wright Town, it was decided to shift the galvanising activities
from Wright Town to a new location. Similarly, with a view to minimise arduous manual labour
in rivetting of Telephone poles at Wright Town, Jabalpur, it was decided to set up a Modern
Tube Making Plant at the new location. Thus, a new Telecom Factory at Richhai, Jabalpur came
into being.
