Thanks for joining in early

The course starts at 7pm AEST (UTC +10)

Agenda:
Confirming and Sharing Requirements
Getting Stakeholders Aligned
Requirements Traceability
Changes to Requirements
The role of the BA includes not just writing the document
Our requirements need to be approved by the business
All relevant stakeholders need to have their say
Debate at this stage is better than confrontations later

A project cannot be approved and funded until the business case is fully met
This involves ensuring that all key stakeholders not only know what to expect
But also that they approve of what it will take in order to get that outcome
Checks the details of the requirements with stakeholders
VERIFICATION Ensures that stakeholder needs are correctly interpreted
Focuses on functionality, details and local consequence

Checks that combined requirements meet business goals

VALDIATION Ensures that decision makers understand the future state
Focuses on outcomes, solutions and their suitability
This is an ongoing part of the requirements analysis
It is related to the integrity and suitability tests of reqs
It uses stakeholder feedback to test that suitability
Does NOT give an approval to invest or deliver

The terms Verification & Validation can be confusing and are often misused
Verification: truth and integrity check
Validation: value and acceptance check
Feels like a final test, but can and should be ongoing
Is related to the business goals and objectives
Uses exec stakeholder feedback to accept the outcome
DOES give an approval to invest or deliver

Many business practices and philosophies use forms of V&V

The terminology can differ between functions and businesses
In your organisation, which would be the
worse consequence of not having a formal
validation process?
Business Sponsor Person responsible for business success

Used to determine the consequences of any changes

Traceability is complex and time consuming, but it is the best

protection against change-related risks
Risks arise from the unpredictability inherent in business
BA evolved from the need to reduce change-related risk
Details and specifics are the weapons of BA against risk
Certainty and predictability are the key objectives
