SCOOT! With task cards

Set up:
Place a task card on each desk
Make sure each student will have a piece of paper for the answer sheet

Procedure:
Students will go around to each desk, answering the question on each task card. Students
should NOT write on the task cards, but instead record their answers on a piece of paper.

Set a timer for about 2 minutes (you may need to adjust), once the timer goes off, students will
need to move to the next desk and begin the next task cards.

Time allowing, have students check their answers and go over any task cards that were missed.

Make your own Reading Test

Set up:
If we have Chromebooks, students can use those. If not, theyll need paper.
Academic Vocabulary booklet

Procedure:
Give each student a copy of the passage (do not have them write on it!) and have them read it.

Divide students into 6 groups. Explain that as a class, they will be creating a reading test. Each
group will create questions about the passage, but each group will have a different topic with
which they will use to guide their questions. Encourage students to use the Academic
Vocabulary to create their questions.

Give each group a topic:

1. Context clues
2. Authors purpose
3. Main Idea & Supporting Details
4. Fact and Opinion
5. Text Structure
6. Cause and Effect

Each group will need to create at least 4 questions, but they can make more! Walk around,
offering help and encouraging students to dig deep (have them look at individual paragraphs
and the passage as a whole)
When groups finish, they can share their questions with another group to answer them.
