Senator H. M. Rae has returned
from a trip to the Corbin district
where he and his brother, Clarence
Rae, and John A. Drake have valuable
mining interests. Mr. Rae states that
Corbin is looking very well.

Helena Independent: J. P. Barnes,
the prominent mining man, who has
been ill, is reported to be rapidly re
covering. Mr. Barnes has but recent
ly moved to Helena and now occupies
the Thatcher residence on Dearborn
avenue.
Assistant Cashier Harry Yaeger of
the First National Bank, returned
home last evening from an extended
eastern trip. Mr. Yaeger attended the
convention of the National Bankers
association at Cape May, New Jer
sey, and had a pleasant trip all the
way through.
Musselshell News: Jacob Berg, of
I.ennep, was here Wednesday. Mr.
Berg bought of George Moore, of
Melville, 1,000 head of three-year old
ewes and will take them to Lennep
at once. The price paid was near $5
per head. Mr. Berg also recently de-
liverd 200 head of cattle at Shawmut
to W. C. Jenizen of that place.

Dr. O. Y. Warren, for many years
superintendent of the state insane
asylum, died at Butte a few days ago
of heart disease. Dr. Warren was
well known in this citv, where he
spent several days at the time of the
first trial of the Sherman case, being
at that time an expert witness for the
state on insanity.
Leona Leonitis, whose plans for
marrying a blind veteran of the Civil
war here was suddenly unset a short
tune ago by her arrest on a charge
of vagrancy, is still at the county jail,
while a charge of insanity still hangs
over Mr. Scott. There may be some
further proceedings, but it is safe to
sav that there will be no wedding
bells for this couple, as they cannot
secure a license.

Bain & Cook, the well drillers on
the B. & N. railroad, have struck a
strong flow of water at the new
townsite on the Judith near Sheas
which flows freely over the top of
any stand of pipe. This will assure
this new town of a bountiful supply
of very good water for city purposes.
The question of the name of this new

A. L. Goodkind, of Helena, who
was one of the automobile party
which took the trip from Helena to
Kendall is quoted as follows by the
Record with reference to Fergus
county: "The county is a veritable
grain field. One would not dream it
possible that so much and such high
grade grain could be raised on the
bench lands. The prices being real
ized are the highest quotations, which
shows that the quality is par excel

Charles Wright, a well known min

from Idaho. Mr. Wright has spent
considerable time looking over the
mineral belt in the vicinity of Boise.
He expects to return to Kendall,

The Democrat is exhibiting this
week a mammoth rutabaga. It was
sent to this office by Richard Jones
of Kendall and was probably grown
on the Judith, but by whom we are
not advised. It weighs thirteen and
one-half pounds.
John G. Rieder was in from his
ranch in the Badlands country Sat
urday. A number of horses disap
peared from Mr. Rieders ranch re
cently. A description of the animals
will be found in this issue of the
Democrat.
An enthusiastic meeting was held
at Redmen hall Monday evening for
the purpose of re-organizing the band.
A1 Mansell, who has taken an active
interest in the matter, believes the
new organization will start off with a
membership of about thirty.
Father Van den Broeck was in
town yesterday attending to business
matters in collection with the work
of the Catholic church. Contractor
McRae now has the steeple on the
new church in place and the structure
will be under roof in a few days.

A man booked as John Doe was ar
rested on his arrival here from Moore
on the freight train last evening by

man is charged with touching a
party at Moore for about $40. When
searched at the jail, only $8 was
found on him.
The Meagher Republican, for six

Waterman, editor and proprietor of
the Republican, will retire from the

Hendricks & Carroll shipped five
cars of very fine range cattle to the
Chicago market last evening, four cars
being loaded at Lewistown and one
here. The shipment was accompan
ied by Allen Dudley and G. M. Saf-
ford. Mr. Dudley will return to
Moore by the 26th while Mr. Safford
expects to visit his home in South

Judge E. K. Cheadle and County
Surveyor O. F. Wasmansdorff re
turned home Saturday afternoon from
a visit of a week in the vicinity ot
Utica and along the Judith, the trip
being made by the judge to secure
data bearing on the Hobson-Belden
water right litigation, in which farm

interested. All the evidence in the case
was taken several months ago, and
Judge Cheadle will now be able to
hand down his decision before next
spring.
Thomas G. Nielson was in from
Rogers yesterday on a business visit.
Mr. Nielson informs the Democrat
that the Rogers postoffice has been
discontinued. This will work quite a
hardship on the people in that section,
necessitating their coming to Lewis
town, a distance of twenty miles, for
mail. The roads are not in the best
of condition between the two points
and Mr. Nielson does not believe his
neighbors will make the trip more
than once a month.

Tyler were united in marriage W ed
nesday evning at the home of the
brides sister, Mrs. Milsap. The cere
mony was performed in the presence
of a few intimate friends by Rev. H.
G. Wakefield, of the Episcopal church.
The bride is a daughter of Frank
Moshner. Mr. Tyler is the son of Sam
Tyler, a highly respected resident of
Forest Grove. Mr. and Mrs. Tyler
will reside on Mr. Tylers ranch at
forest Grove.

Miss Nellie Titter and the local
amateurs, among them Louis Blod
gett, who will produce the popular
comedy, Facing the Music, at the
opera house in the near future, had
their first rehearsal last evening, and
before the week is out the caste will
oe announced and the performers will
all be letter perfect in their parts.
The performance promises to be the
most successful one ever given by
local people. It will be presented
about the end of the month and will
go for two nights.
