MONT MARATHON
The race, which will be on May
21 st this year, starts at
Bennington College in the cool
of the morning at 8:00 AM
and ends 26.2 miles later at Riley Rink, Manchesters Olympic size skating
facility, between 10:30 and1:00 PM, depending on your pace. Its course, which
follows secondary roads, includes 8.5 unpaved miles in Shaftsbury and Ar-
lington. Apple and lilac trees in full fragrant spring bloom will shade many of
the roads the race travels.
This years race is sponsored by Riley Rink at Hunter Park, The Spiral Press,
The Southern Vermont Medical Center, and The Vermont Country Store.
It is being organized by the Batten Kill Valley Runners Club and The Collabo-
rative, an organization that provides healthy activities to youth and families
in the mountain towns and Northshire communities.Traffic control and race
safety are being provided by the Vermont State Polices Shaftsbury bar-

Tuesday, May 23, 7 pm. Ellen Apperson Brown grew up hearing
colorful stories about Appy, her fathers uncle, and she went
on to become a leading authority on his life and
accomplishments. On Tuesday, May 23 at 7 pm she will share
some of those stories at the Chapman Museum and sign copies
of her new book, John Appersons Lake George. John Apperson
discovered Lake George one summer while attending a boat race,
and thus began his lifelong love affair. He devoted his energy
and resources to saving the land from commercial development,
logging, illegal squatters, and erosion. Appersons strategy was
to promote Lake George for its recreational potential while
recruiting people to help repair the shores of islands. Most of
the images in John Appersons Lake George are from Ellen
Apperson Browns personal collection and the Kelly Adirondack
Research Center, Union College.

SILENT AUCTION ITEMS SOUGHT FOR FUNDRAISER- On August 26, 2017 Cornell
Cooperative Extension will be holding its 8th Annual Golf Tournament and Silent Auction at Cronins
Golf Resort in Warrensburg, NY. All proceeds from this benefit will be used to help financially
support Cornell Cooperative Extensions educational programs. We are asking for your support in
the form of merchandise donation or gift certificate that will be used as either a door prize for the
golf tournament or for an item in our silent auction. Cornell Cooperative Extension is a key outreach
system of Cornell University with a strong public mission and an extensive local presence that is
responsive to the needs of people in our community. Cornell Cooperative Extension provides
educational programs in the following areas: 4-H Youth Development, Family and Consumer Sciences,
Natural Resources, Gardening and Landscape, Nutrition, Diet and Health. In-Kind gift donations

THE TRI TOWN COLLECTORS CLUB WILL HOLD A COIN, SPORTS, POSTCARD,
FAMILY HOBBY SHOW ON SUNDAY MAY 28TH at the Hampton Inn at 51 Hannafords Sq.
from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Many dealers and collectors from the tri-state area meet monthly with a
daylong series of hobby activities that is packed with fun for the whole family. Besides the usual
offerings of coins, currency, stamps, sports cards and comic books there will be a special quiz for
collectors at the coin club table giving away many interesting door prizes including a nice group
of collectable quarters. This month, three new coin collectors will be present as well as a dealer
with fractional civil war currency and other paper money. There also will be a collector with a large
presentation of vintage sports cards. Half price dealer space will be offered for new dealers. There

CHAPMAN MUSEUM TO HOLD NEW EVENT- A Night in the
Museum A Trivia Scavenger Hunt, Saturday, May 20, 5 - 7
pm / 8 - 10 pm. Become a sleuth on your own or join a friend in
a scavenger hunt that leads one throughout the museum. The
challenge is to see who can find all the objects and answer the
most questions correctly. For example, one challenge is to find
this Victorian taxidermy display and answer the question How
many bird specimens are displayed in the DeLong House? Look
carefully. Prizes will be awarded for the highest scores.
Refreshments will be provided. Cost: $25/person advance; $30

MUSIC FROM SALEM EMERGING ARTISTS VIOLA & VIOLIN
SEMINAR CONCERT Sunday June 4, at 4:00pm, Music from
Salems Viola & Violin Seminar participants and faculty will
perform a concert at Hubbard Hall located at 25 E. Main Street,
Cambridge, NY. This years viola and violin seminar promises to
be the best yet! Eleven professionally bound students from our
own Washington County, NY, North Carolina, Germany, Peru,
China, Baltimore, Texas, Illinois, Virginia and New Zealand share
their excitement in presenting what they have learned at the
weeklong Music from Salem viola and violin seminar at the
Brown farm after a week of collaboration with piano on
repertoire from all periods. Faculty: Music from Salem Artistic
Director Lila Brown, viola, Sharan Leventhal, violin, and Mark
Ryser, piano. Students and faculty will perform selections from
sonatas by Brahms, Beethoven, Nardini, Hindemith, Fine, Bach,
and both old, and contemporary chamber music. $15 is our
suggested ticket price, but Pay What You Can is our policy - all

TRIP TO THE FINGER LAKES REGION The Cambridge Valley Senior
Citizens are hosting a trip, September12-14, to the Finger Lakes
Region of New York via motor-coach. We will be visiting the
Corning Museum of Glass, Willard Memorial Chapel known for
its Tiffany decor, Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion, Wegmans
Marketplace, National Soaring Museum, and Belhurst Castle. We
will also do a winery and tasting event, cruise on Skaneateles
Lake and visit the Fingerlakes Gaming and Racetrack. Lots of fun
places to explore! The trip includes 2 breakfasts, 2 dinners and 2
nights lodging as well as luggage handling for the price of $399

AUDITIONS- The Hudson River Shakespeare Company announces
auditions for its production of As You Like It. Auditions will take
place on May 24 at 7 pm at the United Methodist Church, 227
Main Street, Hudson Falls. No preparation is necessary; however
it is important to be on time. Parts are available for ages ten and
up. Rehearsals begin June 5 and run Monday through Thursday
from 6 pm to 9 pm. Performances will take place at the Strand
Theater on June 30 and July 1 at 8 pm with two matinees on July
1 and 2 at 2 pm. Shakespeare invokes a number of plot conventions
found in his other plays in the pastoral comedy As You Like It.
Here we have brother versus brother in the form of Oliver and
Orlando and Duke Frederick and Duke Senior, love at first sight
with Orlando and Rosalind, and, of course, girl-disguised-as-boy
when Rosalind becomes Ganymede following her banishment.
Add to this a band of merry men and some comical shepherds TURKEY DINNER- The Salem United Methodist Church will host
and you have one of Shakespeares lighter comedies. Andy Daly a turkey dinner on Thursday,May 18 at 5pm. Suggested
