THE CLASS.

This report is being written to talk about my first teaching practice which
took place on 28, February. This class was given to three A1-A2 students
from ages between 16 to 30. The main aim of the class was for students
to be able to talk about their daily routines in order to agree on a day for
an appointment by means of using the Present Simple in first person and
the preposition at, as well as time-related vocabulary.
POSITIVE ASPECTS ABOUT MY TEACHING.
In spite of the problems during the warm-up and the presentation
stages, the final product of this class was quite successful. In previous
classes, there were some problems when thinking of a context in which
the topics taught were real and meaningful for students. That is the
reason why we decided to introduce the context of making appointments
for this class.
NEGATIVE ASPECTS ABOUT MY TEACHING.
At the beginning, problems were presented when only one person
arrived to the class. Besides, he was a student who had not come to the
previous class. So when trying to make a review of last weeks class, it
was like a small class. It was important for the following task, so T could
not skip it. After ten minutes, two more students arrived, including the
only person who took the previous class. Also, it was difficult to try to
convey the meaning of appointment, and the way it was explained was
not that appropriate for this students.
STUDENTS REACTIONS.
At the end of the class, one student approached to me and told me that
the class had been so great and meaningful to her. The production
activity was to make an appointment with their friends to go to the
movie theatre. So they had to agree on a date and time everyone was
free based on schedules designed in advance. When done, a student
would need to write on the board the day and the time they would go to
the movies. Given that making appointments with friends is something
that we do in our L1, ss had a positive attitude and they were highly
motivated to do the task.
ASPECTS TO IMPROVE.
As it was mentioned before, the way T tried to convey the meaning of
what an appointment is resulted in a difficult part of the class. Instead, if
this class was taught again, it would be a better idea to find another
activity that ss found interesting, and ask them when to go. That way,
every ss would be able to suggest a day and time. After that, the main
aim of the class would start and the final result at the end of the class
would be about the same, as well as effective and memorable.
