exampleofadisastrousradioactiveleakinvolvingafission
reactortookplaceatChernobylin1986wherehighlevel
radioactivityescapedintotheenvironment.Thisdangerisnot
presentinfusionreactions,becauseifthereactionbecomes
uncontrolleditsimplystopswithnonegativeimpactotherthana
lossintheelectricitysupply.

hassomanybenefitssoletsmoveontoevaluatethechallenges
ofusingfusion.
Themainobstacletousingthistechnologyisthetemperature
required.Togiveyouanexample,theminimumtemperatureatwhich
areactionwillbeginis100milliondegreesCentigrade,whichis
muchtoohotforanyconventionalcontainertohold.
Afinalproblemisthatitishardtobalancethereactionsothat
fuelisbeingaddedattherateitisneeded.Aswesaidearlier
theonlyresultisthatthereactionstopsandtheelectricity
supplystopsbutthisisalsoaproblemwhichwouldneedtobe
overcome.
