at----The story of Muhammad

JJ----Birth- Around 570 C.E. in Makkah Muhammad was born. He was born into the Hashim
clan which was very small and poor.

a-----Orphan- In 570 C.E. Muhammad was born into a family without a father and very soon
after Muhammads mother died, and sent to live with his uncle.

at----Trader-When he was about 12 years old, he accompanied his uncle on a trading journey.
They traveled far north Syria, he gained his first exposure to places outside the arabian deserts.

JJ----Marriage-when muhammed was about 25 years old he was proposed to by a 40 year old
woman named Khadijah in which he worked for. They had many kids and his one daughter,
Fatimah was the only child to have children.

a---cave- In about 610 C.E., Muhammad went to go pray in a cave in the mountains. According
to islamic teachings, that he received the call to be a prophet, or messenger of god, Allah.

at----Gabriel- Gabriel was an angel whom allah sent down to make Muhammad recite the words
of the Quran.

JJ----Allah-Muhammad believed in monotheism, in which Allah was the only god. Allah was the
one and only God

a----Quran- the qur'an tells the story of the night journey where muhammad brought the winged
horse to jerusalem. Jerusalem is the city where early muslims directed their prayers. He met
abraham, moses and jesus

at----Reject- When Muhammad was telling people in mecca there was only one god, the
people rejected him

JJj----Followers- Muhammad said that the words that were spoken from Gabriel were imprinted
on his mind and heart. Muhammad grew in many followers as he traveled around different
places.

a-----Boycott- as the number of muslims grew, the powerful clans of Makkah started a boycott
to make muhammads followers give up islam. For three years the hashim suffered as the
makkans refused to do business with them.

at-----Night Journey- Around the time of 619, the Quran tells the story of a winged horse who
took Muhammad to Jerusalem, where the Muslims directed their prayers.
JJ----Madinah- Was changed from the original name of Yathrib. The name medinah means
prophet of the city.

A-Battles- In 624, fighting broke out between the muslims and the makkans. The muslims
successfully attacked a caravan on its way to makkah.

at----People of the Book- the new muslim community converted to islam. They pledged to be
more loyal and helpful to each other. Muhammad asked his followers to respect christians and
jews who the people of the book who also believed

JJ----Last sermon- In March 632, muhammad led his final pilgrimage. In the town of his birth,
he delivered his last sermon
