Busy Times!
Wow, allot of music is being made around here! Weve had a spring full of musical, personal,
and social growth, not to mention many new memories and experiences. At festival our
Grade 7 Band received Silver, while our Grade 8 Band received Gold AND the award for Best
Intermediate Band in the festival!
Thank you to all of the parent, guardian, and student volunteers who have made these events
a success. We have two busy weeks left ahead of us before we start winding down and
preparing for next year.

Practicing
All grade 7 and 8 students have been filling in practice tracking sheets, and should continue
this until their concert next week. Students are expected to take ownership of their parts!
Please encourage your kids to come in for extra help if/when they are running into
challenges.

Grade 6 Lab Band

Grade 6 students enrolled in music next year have been put together tp create the Grade 6
Lab Band. This group will be performing at the concert on Tuesday with our other bands (see
information below). In order for your child to take an instrument home to practice for the
week I must receive a letter of permission from a parent or guardian.

Spring Concert
Our spring concert is next week. There will be a performance at 2:20 for the school and a
performance at 7:00pm for parents, guardians, and anybody else who wants to come and see
our bands in action! Students are to arrive no later than 6:15 to setup, warm up, and get ready
to go. Dress is black pants, black footwear, and band shirt. Grade 6 Lab Band students (gr 6
students who are taking music next year) should wear their blue WHMS t-shirts.

Instrument returns and Summer Use

After the concerts instruments should be taken home for a thorough cleaning and returned to
the school by Thursday June 1st for spring inventory and repairs. Please see
mrreidsite.weebly.com for a review of proper instrument maintenance and cleaning.

Students are encouraged to take their instruments home to play and participate in summer
music activities. To make arrangements a parent or guardian should get in touch with Mr. Reid
