Congress nf the United States
Washington, AE 20515
May 17,2017
‘The Honorable Donald J. Trump
President ofthe United States
‘The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20500
Dear Mr. President,
We are deeply concerned by reports that, in your meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov
and Ambassador Kislyak, you shared highly classified information reportedly obtained and shared
withthe U.S. by Israel. Regardless of whether or not the State of Israel publicly confirms these
reports, the underlying issue at hand is that this reckless disclosure has the potential to undermine
‘ur intelligence relations with all of our alles, especially Israel
By providing Russia, a known foreign adversary and supporter of hostile state actos, such as Tran
and Syria, with code-word intelligence, you may have given them insight into the sources,
capabilities, and methods of Israeli intelligence collection, Based on Russia's close relationship
‘with Iran, itis even more concerning that this kind of sensitive intelligence could make its way into
the hands of Iran and its proxy Hezbollah, which both openly seek Israel's destruction,
Israel isan indispensable ally of the U.S. with whom we enjoy mutualy-beneficial military,
intelligence, and economic cooperation, Jeopardizing our intelligence sharing with Israel endangers
four own national security and the security of Israel. Recent reports that your actions may have
placed an Israel intelligence agent's lle at risk are extremely disturbing.
Furthermore, today’s revelation may not only make it harder for our key allies, such a Israel, to
continue collaborating and sharing intelligence with us in the future, but it may also weaken our
‘relationship and intelligence sharing capabilities with allies who may now consider us to be an
‘untrustworthy partner and an impediment in the global fight against terrorism,
In light of your actions, we implore you to use your upcoming trp to Israel to reinforce the US.-
Israel intelligence sharing relationship and assure our allies thatthe US will remain a trusted
telligence partner. In addition, Congress must receive a full immediate briefing on what
transpired between you and Russian officials last week regarding intelligence received from lara.
‘The role ofthe Commander in Chief is one that must be taken seriously. This isan incredible
responsibility —one that should never result in compromising our most sensitive and highly
classified information, especially to a foreign adversary, and at the expense of one of ou closest
allies.
Sincerely,
Tacky Roser ———Ted Deutch Br
