The aim of the course is to enhance skills, enabling tasks to be performed by lifting
and slinging components and equipment in a safe and correct manner
PRreE-REQUISITE
A knowledge of the environment in which the participant performs his/her duties.
Course OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this course the delegate will be capable of correctly and safely:
* Selecting and using chains and chain slings
* Selecting and using wire rope slings
* Using "Safe Working Load’ Charts
* Slinging and moving loads
* Working with cranes
* Calculating the weights and centres of gravity of loads and taking
these factors into account of slinging and moving same
They will also have a working knowledge of all relevant current legislation relating
to lifting and slinging and of general site and workshop safety standards
They will be familiar with lifting tackle inspection, maintenance and storage proce-
dures.
Course DURATION
The course will be of a duration agreed with the client.
ASSESSMENT

Aim
This is a basic rigging course designed to suit the requirements of trainees who
have limited or no knowledge of Rigging, Lifting and Slinging Techniques.
Pre-REQUISITE
No previous experience required.
Course OBJECTIVES
On completion of this course the trainee will be capable of:
+ Identifying basic equipment used in rigging
+ Using safely and effectively basic items of rigging equipment
+ Being aware of the statutory requirements and regulations
regarding rigging equipment together with the trainees obligations to
Site Safety and the Health & Safety at Work Act
* Inspecting wire ropes, chains and other items of rigging equipment
° Calculations required in rigging to include weight calculation, required
angles, amounts of wire/rope/chain required for specific lift, how to use
sling charts
* Typing knots, bends and hitches
* Liting safely both out of balance loads, balanced loads and tandem
ifting
Course DURATION
The duration of this course is five days.
ASSESSMENT
The learner will be assessed by means of a written test.ADVANCED RIGGING SKILLS CouRSE
Course Reference: CP - 6015
Alm
The aim of this course is designed to be final course and test for trainees who have
had at least one years experience of rigging/erecting work on site after attending a
course of Basic Rigging instruction.
Pre-REQUISITE
Site experience plus attendance on the Basic Rigging Course.
Course OBJECTIVES
On completion of the training course the trainee should be capable of:
* Identifying and selecting the correct wire, rope or chain for the task in hand
* Inspecting wire rope and chain slings
* Calculations involved in Rigging
* The safety precautions when lifting heavy objects or off centre lifts
* Transferring loads and using special lifting attachments
* Using winches and snatch blocks
Course DuraTION
The course will be of five days duration and will be held in NETA's Training Centre
or on Client's premises.
ASSESSMENT
The trainee will be assessed by a written test and practical exercisesRicGinc REFRESHER CouRSE
Course Reference: CP - 6016
Aim
The aim of the course is to refresh and update the knowledge of Rigging Personnel
with regard to the current relevant Rigging Regulations and Practices of the
Construction Industry.
PRE-REQUISITE
Previous knowledge of Rigging Techniques.
OBJECTIVES
On successful completion of the course the candidate will be able to: -
% Be aware of the relevant regulations currently in use on Construction Sites...
‘Having a working knowledge of the correct use of chains, wire ropes and
other lifting aids used in various lifling techniques
‘+ Having a working knowledge in the use of iting and rigging out of balance
loads.
* Performing simple calculations used in lifting and rigging
‘The document control required for lifting equipment.
Course DuRATION
The course will be of a duration required by the client, commensurate with
their employees experience.
ASSESSMENT
The trainee will be assessed by written/practical as required by the clients and
dependent on the length of course.LiFtiING GEAR INSPECTION COURSE
Course Reference: CP - 6082
Aim
The aim of the course is to ensure that personnel are capable of undertaking inspection
of lifting and slinging equipment.
Pre-REQUISITE
Familiarity of lifting and slinging equipment is required.
Course OBJECTIVES
On completion of the course the trainee should be able to:
* Be aware of current legislation and safety regulations as they apply
to lifting tackle
* Be able to recognise visual defect and/or weakness of lifting
appliances
+ Be conversant in methods of maintenance and storage of lifting
tackle
* Be capable of implementing the criteria for the rejection of faulty
lifting gear.
Course DuRATION
The course is of one day duration.
ASSESSMENT
Assessment of the training will be by written test and practical demonstration.
9SLINGING, SIGNALLING AND GENERAL RIGGING DuTIES
Course Reference: CP - 6601
Aim
The aim of the course is to enhance skills, enabling tasks to be performed by lifting,
slinging and rigging components and equipment in a safe and correct manner.
Pre-REQUISITE
A knowledge of the environment in which the participant performs his/her duties.
Course OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this course the delegate will be capable of correctly and safely:
* Selecting and using wire rope slings/fibre slings and webbing belt slings.
° Using 'Safe Working Load’ Charts
* Slinging and moving loads
* Working with cranes and the correct use of hand signals.
* Use of general rigging equipment
* Calculating the weights and centres of gravity of loads and taking these
factors into account of slinging and moving same
They will also have a working knowledge of all relevant current legislation relating to
lift ing, slinging and rigging of general site and workshop safely standards.
They will be familiar with lifting tackle inspection procedures
Course Duration
The course will be of three days duration
ASSESSMENT
The learner will be assessed by means of a written test and practicle assessment.
10SLINGER/SIGNALLER COURSE
Course Reference: CP - 6602
Aim
The aim of the course is to enhance skills, enabling tasks to be performed by lift-
ing and slinging components and equipment in a safe and correct manner.
Pre-REQUISITE
Aknowledge of the environment in which the participant performs his/her duties.
Course OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this course the delegate will be capable of correctly and safely:
* Selecting and using chains and chain slings
* Selecting and using fibre strops
* Using ‘Safe Working Load’ Charts
° Slinging and moving loads
* Assisting with cranes and the correct use of hand signals.
¢ Calculating the weights and centres of gravity of loads and taking these factors
into account of slinging and moving same
They will also have a working knowledge of all relevant current legislation relating to lifting
and slinging and of general site and workshop safety standards.
Course DuraTION
The course will be of a two days duration.
ASSESSMENT
The learner will be assessed by means of a written test.
11MANAGEMENT OF SAFE LIFTING OPERATIONS
Course Reference: CP - 6603
Aim
The aim of this course is to provide uniformity of training to a recognised standard
and to provide selected personnel with the knowledge and skills needed to carry
out the duties of the Appointed Person as defined in BS7121 Part 1 and BS7121
Part 3
Pre-REQUISITE
Candidates must be experienced in trade specific Rigging and Erecting.
Course OBJECTIVES
On successful completion of this course candidates will know:
* The requirements of the legislation regarding Mobile Cranes
* The terminology used to identify component parts
* The safe setting up of the crane and its equipment for the lifting operation
* Will be able to identify the purpose and capacity of lifting tackle in
general use for lifting
* The correct method of handling, using and storing lifting tackle and the
legal requirements applicable fo the maintenance, inspection and marking
for identification
* How to carry out the planning and selection of cranes
* How to carry out the inspection of the personnel lifting equipment
necessary for the management of lifting operations to the required
standard as defined in BS7121 Code of Practice Part 1(General) and
Part 3 2000
Course Duration
The course will be of a three days duration.
ASSESSMENT
Achievement and measurement of delegates will be by a series of assessments.
