Mindmap of ideas for your installation

Create a mindmap showing ideas of how you might install your video.
Define what type(s) of visuals you will use.
(Eg. video cameras, still cameras, hand crafted artwork, film, animation, digital technologies)
Unit 35 Installation Production Booklet
Over the years, moving images have improved greatly improved in ways that mean visual videos are
detailed and hold a lot of potential. They are normally presented in shops, galleries or exhibitions. An
example of a well-known artist is Sue de Beer. She explores imagery based around memory and light. She
uses the repeat of pattern, and a cinematic device to control the lighting to manipulate the audience in see
into her haunting narratives. This will be shown in my current work as I want light to be the focus, and to
engage the audience in the UV technique. I feel as though this is a good idea as it is different from other
productions, and involves techniques that my inspiration uses. I want my installation to be controlled by light
and the repeat of pattern shown to manipulate the audience in a way to be engaged with the story line and
remember it in the future as a high standard and interesting installation. She is known for her haunting
narratives and that is how I wish mine came across to the audience. The nature behind the audience would
be into nature and the idea of natural lighting and the detail that is involved. They would like the pureness of
the installation and would be interested into calming aspects rather than some installations which as all over
the place and very difficult to focus on.

The plan for this would be on a screen instead of a projector. This is because the lights would be too bright
behind a projector that it would take away the focus of my work, and I only want it to benefit the production
rather than take away the emphasis. The room that my installation would be in would be dark, meaning that
I would be able to have my description in UV paint written on the floor. This makes the work more interesting
and continues with the theme. By doing this, it would mean the audience would take time to actually read it
as it is in a more exciting form, and different from other production that would be shown on the night. The
lighting behind the screen would be UV colours including pink, green, orange and yellow. These are the
main colours used in my final major project so they would relate to each other and push each other to look
like a more detailed production. By using a lot of light, it draws the audience in, and creates an uplifting
production.

Sound design

What sound will your Productions have?

My production would have the song LSD by ASAP Rocky, which is the song I am using in my final major
project. This will be the main theme that my installation will follow which means during I need the same
melo slow song, to keep the audience engaged and know the content that is being shown. In addition, it
will mean that the audience will get a feel for what sort of work I create and what sort of artist I am.
There would be dialogue used within the song, but I will not be speaking in the production, I feel as
though that would take away focus of the main purpose of my installation, and I would prefer to have
written down the description rather than speaking to the audience. I wont be involving any silence during
the production, as I think that would distract the audience and make them not want to continue
watching/listening.

Will you use headphones or speakers for this sound?

I will be using headphones for my production to give off the soundtrack.

Why?
As my final major project is a music video, I feel as though having the song playing in
headphones would mean that the audience would engage with the lyrics more, and not get
distracted from what is happening around them. It would mean that the audience would
feel more involved with the production and the song that is being played, rather than
playing it on a speaker this form is a lot more personal, and would create a better
atmosphere.

Lighting design

What lighting will you have in your installation? Consider health and safety.

UV bright lights, which would be added behind the screen, and have lights underneath meaning that the
UV paint which will be the description is easily seen, and will be shown brightly. This will involve a mix of
colours to keep it interesting for the audience, and to stand out over other productions. The health and
safety to consider with this is that the lights will get very hot during the day, and if anyone touches them
it could create burns and someone could get ill from this.

Projection vs screen
Unit 35 Installation Production Booklet
Will you project your video or play it on a screen?

I will be playing my product on a screen.

Why? If you are using a screen, will yo

ction that is being shown. Projectors are thin which means the lights would
Useovertake the
a single action or
screen, that is being
multiple
Screens?
For my final idea for how to install
this, I will be only using one screen.
This is because I do not want the
action to become messy and look
too busy. As there will already be a
lot going on, I feel as though having
multiple screens will be too
distracting and look unprofessional.

If you are projecting

what will How will that change how your

As the footage will have a distorted
theme as it is, I feel as though the

as focused, and professional. By
having too many screens it will
distract the audience from the
main storyline, and by having only
one screen it means that the
audience will understand the

Technological convergence

What is technological convergence?

This is the different technological systems to develop towards performing comparable
tasks. Past technologies was only designed to handle the tasks that are set out, for
example a telephone was only able to receive and transmit calls. In more recent times have
developed greatly, this is in the development of phones, accessories, and social
interactions. Using these convergences have its benefits and downfalls. Including the fact
that is very expensive, a los profit if it fails, and it doesn't add much more quality. The
benefits is that is enables them to have more advertisement, and promote the business in
a more board manner. The process by which means that technologies merge into new
forms that bring together different types of media and applications.

Will you be using this in your installation?

I will be using this in my production.

Explain your answer.

This is because I want my work to be promoted in a more advance way through technology
and advertisement is key in order for people to come and see what my installation involves.

Unit 35 Installation Production Booklet

In the 1960s and 1970s artists began to show their focus on the possibilities of moving images within a video form. It
was a new way to communicate to the audience and do it in a much more appealing way to benefit the audiences
demands. The first way of producing movies images was done by an intelligent man called Eadweard Muybridge who
created the Zoopraziscope. This is the device to display motion pictures to begin with, to have a rapid speed on a movie
projector to show images that have been spun around to give the audience the impression that it is moving. This then
gave the ability for artists to create something more for the audience rather than still images. The audience response
from this was being shocked at the ability to create a moving image from a single board and spinner in order for it to
create the illusion of something moving.

This then lend on to more artists trying the idea out, and putting their artwork in a form, which is different and more creative. This
then benefitted other productions as it showed other artists how to use space to create meaning, and how to present productions
in artistic forms to make something new and interesting for the audience.

For example, John Cage. He created a controversial music composition with holding 4 minutes of a single note of music. It is
footage of him playing the panino and showing how long he can hold it for. He involved music of all sounds, even nonmusical
sounds to show the absence of sound. It gives the chance of the audience to hear and feel the sounds of the environment. He
embraced the randomness of ambient sounds in his piece and this is why he grew more popular by the public. This was shown on
a presentation board, in exhibitions so that people could be in a confined area and get right into their feelings and emotions.
Installation art can be either temporary or permanent, being shown in a public space or a completely private area. They are
Unit 35 Installation Production Booklet
designed to appeal for the medium shown, this can either be done on projectors, TV monitors, flat screens, or mobile phone
devices. I would show this in my own production as I want to make sound a big part of the production, to make the audience feel
something different and engage with the content more and come up with their own story lines based on their own situation. The
intentions of the audience is to paramount in later installations whose artists love the conceptual art of the 1960s. In my own
work, this will inspire to use sound in a way to manipulate the audience to feel a certain emotion.

Over the years, moving images have improved greatly improved in ways that mean visual videos are detailed and
hold a lot of potential. They are normally presented in shops, galleries or exhibitions. An example of a well-known
artist is Sue de Beer. She explores imagery based around memory and light. She uses the repeat of pattern, and a
cinematic device to control the lighting to manipulate the audience in see into her haunting narratives. Sometimes
you remember places you have never been too or people youve never met Sue de Beer. I feel as though her
artwork is very strong and hold many emotions. The colours are bright and vibrant which grabs the attention of the
audience and I feel as though she is unique in comparison to other artists.

I will use Sue De Beer as my main inspiration as I want my installation to be controlled by light and the repeat of
pattern shown to manipulate the audience in a way to get engaged with the story line and remember it in the future
as a high standard and interesting installation. She is known for her haunting narratives and that is how I wish mine
