2.0 INTRODUCTION OF PROJECT

1
2.1 Electro Pneumatic

Electro-pneumatic term is defined from words of electro, which mean

electrical and pneumatic, which mean air pressure. The electro-pneumatic
system is an integration of electrical and mechanical components with
compressed air source.
Electro-pneumatic controllers have a pneumatic power section. In an
electro-pneumatic control, the signal control section is made up of electrical
components, for example, the proximity switches, and the relays.
The directional control valve behaves as an intermediary between the
electrical signals controls section and the pneumatic power section in the
controller.

2.2 Electro Pneumatic Punch Press Feeder

A Punch Press Feeder is a type of machine press used to cut holes in

material. It can be small and manually operated and hold one simple die set, or
be very large, CNC operated, with a multi-station turret and hold a much larger
and complex die set.

Punch Press Feeder are relatively cheap devices, however they can
reduce manufacturing cost substantially. The main function of this machine is to
make the holes more accurately. This machine requires very strong pressure to
make holes in sheet metal.

This machine can save time to punch a hole and move more smoothly.
Besides that, Punch Press Feeder can avoid losses in the production process
because there is a damaged metal sheet.

5.0 FULL CIRCUIT ANALYSIS

5
Step 1 : Cylinder A extend

When the push button was pressed, the K1 is on and the contactor of K1 is
also on. The latching circuit is used to make sure the electric circuit still closed to flow
the electric current.

The activation of K1 will activate the Y1 and let the flow to enter the valve 1 and
the pressure will make the cylinder to extend.

6
Step 2 : Cylinder B extend

The activation of A1 will activate the Y3 and let the air flow to enter the valve 2
and the pressure will make the cylinder B to extend.

7
Step 3 : Cylinder A retract

When K2 is on and the contactor K2 is also on. Then, the Y2 was active and let
the air flow to enter in the right valve 1 and make the cylinder A to retract. Then, air will
exit to the atmospheric through port 3.

8
Step 4 : Cylinder B retract

The K2 is on and the contactor K2 is also on. The activation of A0 will active the
Y4 and let the air flow to enter in the right valve 2 and make the cylinder B to retract.
Then, air will exit to the atmospheric through port 3.

6.0 CONCLUSION

As a conclusion, we can learn how important the use of electro-pneumatic system in

the industry. Besides that, we also can understand how the electro-pneumatic system works.
We can also translate electro-pneumatic video (Punch Press Feeder) and make a sequence
based on the video.
After understanding the sequence, we continue to make electro-pneumatic simulation
using a Festo Fluidsim software. We combine electrical and pneumatic circuit to produce the
electro-pneumatic circuit.
Lastly, we can improve knowledge on the subject of electro-pneumatic.

7.0 DISCUSSION

7.1 Different between pneumatic and electro-pneumatic circuit

A Pneumatic Circuit is an interconnected set of components that convert

compressed gas (usually air) into mechanical work. A pneumatic cylinder is usually a
single acting cylinder, where there is a single port in the cylinder and were cylinder
extension is done by compressed air and retraction by means of open coiled spring. In
double acting cylinders two ports both extend and retract by means of compressed air.

Electro-pneumatic system consist of both electrical and pneumatic system.

Usage of electro-pneumatic includes packaging, stamping, shearing, embossing part,
sorting part, component stacking and material stacking.
