History of Christianity :

Birth of Christianity
Christianity stems from the teachings of Jesus Christ as the main character of
this religion. Jesus was born in Bethlehem , located in Palestine around the year
4-8 BC, during the reign of King Herod . Jesus was born of a virgin woman, Maria ,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit . He grew up in Nazareth is a Jewish
custom. From the age of thirty years, for three years he preached and did
miracles in many people, along with the twelve disciples. Jesus increasingly
popular hated by the Jewish leaders, who then conspired to crucify Jesus. Jesus
was crucified at the age of 33 years and rose from the grave on the third day
after his death. After his resurrection, Jesus was still living in the world for forty
days, before then ascend to heaven.

The early church

After the ascent of Jesus Christ into heaven, the apostles began to spread the teachings of
Jesus everywhere, and as a result, the first Christian church, a number of about three
thousand people were baptized. However, in the early days of its establishment, Christianity
tends to be regarded as a threat to constantly pursued and persecuted by the Romans at the
time. Many of the early church founders who are victims of the cruelty of the Roman empire
to become a martyr , which is willing to be tortured or put to death for the sake of
maintaining his faith, one example is Ignatius of Antioch, who was sentenced to death by a
lion used as food.

At that time, the prevailing belief in Roman paganism, where there is the concept of
'direct remuneration'. However, with the onslaught of the Apostles spread Christianity, the
religion slowly began to grow in number, so the government is increasingly threatened by the
presence of Roman Christianity. Roman was trying to suppress, and even ban Christianity,
because Christians at that time would not worship the emperor, and this complicates the
Roman power. Additionally, paganism and predictions since the days of the Republic has
been used as instruments of propaganda and justification of all behavior ruler or rulers failure
reason, is no longer effective in the presence of Christianity. Thus, in this period, many
Christians were killed as government efforts to quell Roman Christianity. The main spreaders
of Christianity at that time was the apostle Paul, the most vociferous spread Christianity to
every corner of the world
Period of darkness

At this time, come times of darkness (192-284), from the Emperor Commodus until the
Emperor Diocletian . At this time the people of the time lost confidence in the concept of
direct remuneration adopted in Paganism, so that the Christian religion was increasingly in
demand. Until the end of the year 313, Emperor Constantine I legalized Christianity and even
asked to be baptized, and 80 years later, Emperor Theodosius prohibits all forms of paganism
and establish Christianity as the state religion.

Christianity as the state religion spread very quickly. But the church also has fragmented
with the emergence of various streams ( heresy ). One effort to suppress heresy is with the
holding of the Council of Nicea first in 325 AD Council of Nicaea sparked the whole
Christian creed first time, as a sign of Christian unity universal as distinguished from the
followers of Christian heresy. One example is the heresy of Arianism , which is one of the
greatest heresy crisis when it was the main reason the holding of the first Council of Nicea.

When the Roman Empire collapsed and scattered, the Christian Church remains. In the
11th century there was a Crusade, which is regarded as a religious war between Christianity
and Islam. Was first coined by Pope Urban II at the request of Emperor Alexios I Komnenos
of the Byzantine Empire , the First Crusade aims to reclaim the holy city of Jerusalem from
Muslim rule, which is an important place as a pilgrimage destination Christians at that time.

The eastern part of the Roman Empire survived as a church called Greek or Orthodox,
who preached the good news in Russia and secede from the Western Hemisphere, which is
under the leadership of the Church of Rome. This separation occurred in 1054 (see: East-
West Schism ).

Meanwhile, in 1460 the invention of printing by Gutenberg making Scripture accessible

to everyone. Previously, the Scriptures are restricted by the Church to the people with the aim
to suppress heresy which is one of the major crises of the Church at that time. Scripture just
read in the Church and a source of discourse.

At that time, many parties are not responsible for utilizing the position in the Western
Church (Catholic) as a source of power, thus indirectly tarnished the good name of the
Church. High-ranking officers in the Church is getting affected to prioritize the interest of the
world that increasingly deviate from the basic teachings of the Catholic Church. Many
persons who occupy important positions in the Church used its powers arbitrarily to the
detriment of many people at the time. This makes a lot of Christians are upset and protesting
and demanding reform. Many people who think that one way to bring renewal in the Church
is to give Scripture to everyone.
