Step 1 Professional Growth Goal (specific): To improve my teaching effectiveness in the Schools
Greatest Area of Need Subject and Indicators. The subject is Reading and the Indicators are
letter/sound identification, decoding CVC words (blending), and Reading Literature (character,
setting and plot).

Standard Indicator #2.9: Maintains complete records of student work and performance and
communicates student progress responsibly to students, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
Step 2 Your rationale for choosing this goal.
If I improve my effectiveness in teaching Reading and Indicators for letter/sound identification,
decoding CVC words (blending), and Reading Literature (character, setting and plot) then my student
outcomes improve.
Step 3 Student Growth Goal/Evidence (not applicable if goal cannot be measured by student growth)

KINDERGARTEN ELA SMART GOAL: 100% of my students will improve by 50%, in their
initial baseline data, in letter/sound identification, decoding CVC words (blending), and Reading
Literature (character, setting and plot), as measured by the ELA SMART Goal Test given in
September, January and April.

___0__% of my students at Tier I will be proficient according to Grade Level criteria in

end of school year.

___100__% of my students at Tier III will be basic to proficient according to Grade Level
criteria in letter/sound identification, decoding CVC words (blending), and Reading Literature
(character, setting, plot), as measured by Grade Level Assessment (Summative, Formative,

As evidence of Professional Growth/Evidence of Student Growth, I will provide an online website

with the following:

Student scores reflecting a pre SMART Goal assessment given in September, progress SMART
Goal assessments given at the end of 2nd quarter, and a post SMART Goal assessment given in
April, which will measure student growth in the three Greatest Areas of Need in kindergarten
ELA. The pre/post SMART Goal assessment will show student growth- by the end of SY 2016-
2017, 70% of my students will be at proficiency (proficiency is scoring 80% or higher in the
post SMART Goal assessment) in the three Greatest Areas of Need in kindergarten ELA.
