The Purchase Department is mainly concerned with stores, procurement and purchase of
various items required by the company. The department has thirty-three employees including
the Head of the Department. Within the Purchase department, the hierarchy of the employees
are:

Field Staff

This department has five sub-departments within it. This departmentalization is based on the
functions. They are Raw Material, Packaging Material, Engineering, Civil & Electrical and
Lab & Others. Among these, only Raw Material has both stores as well as purchase. The
other four are mainly concerned with purchase.
1. Raw Material
This sub-department is mainly concerned with the procurement of raw materials like
chilly, turmeric etc. The functioning is sub-divided as:

2. Packaging Material
This division is mainly concerned with purchase of packaging materials like laminal,
duplex (box).

Executive Trainee (1)

The Executive Trainee can become a Senior Officer after his probationary period. The
decision to retain the trainee is to be made by the HR Manager.
3. Engineering
This division is concerned with purchase of machines, spares and other requirements
for the purpose of production.

4. Civil & Electrical


This division is dealing with the purchase of civil, factory and electrical items. This is
completely under the control of a deputy manager.

5. Lab & Others


This division makes the purchase of other requirements of the company, from laptops
to pen. It is under the control of a deputy manager and a senior officer. This deputy
manager is also the Officer who is reporting at Kota. He is on a Job rotation. He is
working 6 months as an Officer at Kota and the other 6 months as the Deputy
Manager.

The Chain of Command is designed in such a manner that only the head of the department
can report to the Managing Director. The Head of the Department is placed at the Head
Office. He controls his staff at different locations through telephonic calls and site visit. There
is intra-departmental communication. The lower level employees can approach the Head of
the Department. Even when they are at different sites, they have the freedom to contact the
HOD through other means like telephone, emails. The Purchase department has inter-
departmental communication. This is mainly because they have to meet the demands and
requirements of other departments. Even the requirements of various factories are to be met
by this department. This department also practice Job Rotation at certain level.
