Annual Report
IN 2007-2008
• A landmark purchase at Cherokee Marsh
MARIO QUINTANA
Cherokee Marsh is one of the healthiest and best pro-
tected wetlands in Dane County. Nearly 3,000 acres of
wetland, water, and upland are permanently protected
by the DNR, Dane County, and City of Madison, and
the Natural Heritage Land Trust.
T
he Natural Heritage
Land Trust marked 25
years as an independ-
ent non-profit organization in
2008, which is a great accom-
plishment for any non-profit
organization. But what makes this anniversary truly
meaningful is the land we have permanently pro-
tected during that time. Thanks to your support, we
crossed the 5,000 acre mark this year by protecting
some of the great places in our community, like
Cherokee Marsh, Patrick Marsh, and farmland in the
Town of Dunn. In all, we added nearly 750 acres of per-
manently protected land and water to the long list of
cherished places you have helped protect. Thank you
very much for making this success possible.
