Dear Mrs. Nowacki
For the past 4 years, | have had the privilege of knowing Ben Thayer in many capacities, as a work.
colleague, dear friend and coaching partner. Within these diverse connections, Ben has always proven
to be an exemplary individual and | can wholeheartedly recommend him for your assistant principal
position.
Ben's strength lies in his assertive presence and positive demeanor. In his teaching, Ben is approachable
and well-respected by his students. He is a strong advocate for kids and their success, both in their
academics and character. Ben utilizes many strategies for engagement and is a reflective practitioner,
adjusting and responding with best practices for both teaching and managing students. As a team
‘member with him, | have valued his insights in shaping the curriculum and even more importantly,
shaping our students to be upstanding individuals.
‘When engaging with his colleagues, Ben cultivates positive collaboration and friendly and open dialogue.
He has been a critical member of various important committees such as the Curriculum Action Team
(CAT) and FAC (Faculty Advisory Committee). In those settings and more, Ben has proven to be a leader
working with colleagues from many different departments, schools and grade levels. Additionally, as @
coach of many sports, Ben is well-respected amongst parents and coaches within the community and
the surrounding districts.
Ben would fit excellently as an assistant principal at Derby. He brings fresh perspectives and ideas that
would complement the good things happening within your school and community. Thank you for
allowing me the opportunity to discuss Ben with you and I welcome any further insights you would like
from me. | can be reached via email at rhickmott@birmingham.k12.mi.us or by cell at 586.703.0202.
Sincerely,
