The important thing in science is not so much to obtain new facts as to discover new
ways of thinking about them. Sr William Bragg
Science is in everything around us. When we were younger, we just scraped the surface
of science through the world around us and in nature. As we grew older, we discovered how
things worked and why those things were considered science. Science instilled in us, at a very
young age, the importance of wonder and imagination. Yes, those two components are very
important but, science is much more than what meets the imagination.
Science could be anything you make of it. According to the March for Science, the study
of science could be political. The March for Science is a protest that is hosted by supporters of
science, whether that ranges from scientists themselves or students. The protest was held in order
to explain and raise awareness for the significance of science, not just from an everyday
standpoint but from a political standpoint. One of the main goals that was planned to be
accomplished during The March for Science was to emphasize the lack the science, research, and
facts used in political matters today. The March for Science was held on the weekend of April
21, 2017 in Washington DC. Scientist and engineer, Bill Nye (The Science Guy), spoke at the
rally expressing the importance of science, how science has been ignored, and how science can
change the world for the better.
At the March for Science, Bill Nye stressed the importance of science and spoke out
against President Donald Trumps budget cuts and the lawmakers, who purposely choose to
ignore science. Bill Nye claimed that science is in everyones best interest. Bill also spoke at the
rally in order to remind people everywhere of the significance of science for health and
prosperity.
In conclusion, if I was practicing the study of science as an occupation, then I think I
would have attended the March for Science. I think I would attend because science has
continually changed the world for the better through all sorts of scientific discoveries and
modern medical miracles. Science has been a vital part of history and has contributed to many
amazing advances such as medical cures, the awareness of climate change, electronics, space
travel, and many more discoveries throughout the centuries. Needless to say, science has played
a very important part in our world today and has continued to do so with a just a little bit of
imagination.
