Worlds wilderness reduced to a tenth since 1990s

o Rewilding-attempts to restore places to nature.

o Biodiversity-diversity among and within plant and animal species in an environment.
o Pristine-having its original purity; uncorrupted or unsullied.
o Indigenous- originating in and characteristic of a particular region or country; native.

The majority of the worlds wilderness is disappearing, due to pollution, excessive use of
natural resources, and many other human related factors. About 3.3 million square kilometers of
wilderness has been lost since 1993.About 20% of the worlds land area is classed as
wilderness. By this, scientist mean landscape free of large-scale human disturbances such as
housing, development, and industry.

We have left few wilderness places untouched. The majority of these areas found in
North America, north Asia, north Africa, and Australia. The loses recently are mostly in South
America and Africa, because of all the new human-environment interactions.

To ameliorate the situation, attempts of rewilding are being made. Rewilding is attempts
to restore places to their natural state. The researchers say all wilderness areas, regardless of
their size, should be assessed immediately for protection measures. In other words, we should
prioritize finding ways to save the wilderness we still have. Thankfully, more opportunities to fix
this are created as more attention is brought to this dilemma.
Your Opinion of the Event (at least 3 sentences).

The very idea that our wildlife is dying out is horrendous. Without nature, the human race could
easily deteriorate. Its crucial that we do something to ameliorate the situation, if it isnt too late.

Relate your Event to a Historical Event (compare and contrast with current event).

August 21st, 2010, the world went into ecological debt. This means that we used more
resources than we could replace in a timely manner. Some similarities this historical event has
to my current event is that they both discuss wildlife and natural resources becoming scarce.
Unlike the historical event, we arent just barely realizing this. Its gotten to the point where
numerous species die out daily.

The decline in wilderness corresponds with our population growth and colonizations of new
lands. As our population rapidly increases, we require more land to thrive. Due to this, we
colonize land where wildlife lives. When wildlife mingles with society, they often get
exterminated.
