Parajika #1: people talk different

People use terms all kinds of ways. Figure out what they mean and not to get confused.
We want to be self-conscious and not to use terms loosely.
2. Parajika #2: avoid blenders
People mix stuffs up by using terms differently. Do not put terms into the blender.
3. Parajika #3: distinctions matter
Work, text, Scripture
People use these terms so that we can focus on it. On this paper, the focus is work,
text, scripture.
4. Sutra: Sutra as work, sutra as text, sutra as scripture. Meaning of the word sutra
changes when we read it as work, text, scripture.
Meanings of sutra:
-Work: Connection with the outside of it that produces it: What makes/ tie it into a
product, therefore, it is called sutra.
-Text: What hold it together thematically; contents that tie stuffs together. What are the
themes that invite different interpretations? Things to be interpreted.
-Transcendence: The thread that connects us to the transcendence, that is scripture.
5. X+Y+Z=a
Person text transcendence scripture
6. Traction: What kind of traction does it have here to help me read a sutra? How is it that
the Golden Light itself teaches us about work, text, scripture.
How does it provide us with User Manual to help us understand the scripture?
3 origins of the text: there seems no origin of the text.

I. Further Clarification on Work, Text, Scripture.

1. Question on con-:

conwork [historical context], context [context for the text as a whole], con-scripture

Conwork, in theory could be comprehended.

Conscripture, in theory, could be apprehended.

2. Work layer: presupposing that it is an object that can be produced.

Point 1: Golden light sutra is praising itself. It is telling people to produce something. It seems to
presuppose that it is an object that can be produced.

Point 2: Golden Light Sutra says that there is no relic. It is a sutra that is against the other Buddhist point
of views. It talks about that time against people who holds the view of relics.

3. Text layer: We want to write about the CONDITIONS for multiple meanings. The text itself is
saying I have a lot of meaning. How, what are the conditions, that we can interpret it into
different meaning?
Point 1: Golden Light Sutra is inside itself, meaning that people is creating it, it is creating the people. IT
resists of being just a work, but also a text.

Point 2: Golden Light Sutra:

User manual: The first time that Susambhava sees The Golden Light Sutra is inside a dream, but the
second time he sees it in a different condition. This is like a user manual saying that Golden Light Sutra is
expecting different interpretations over and over again.
