SAE Plan - Job shadowing a Vet

Description

I have a interest in this exploratory SAE because of my career interest in being a vet when I get older.

My project is planned to start in early March and be finished by the end of the semester.

Dr. Cooper is assisting me with my project and helping me through letting me job shadow him and learn about his job.

Time Investment

I usually spend 4 hours a week in sports, and 2 hours per week in other activities.

The final activity in my project involves me going to the vets office and learning about what he does as a vet.

Journal - Experience-related Activity - Job shadowing a Vet
Date Activity / Description Hours
Managing animal health Day 1: Dr. Cooper performed two kitten abortions. They were to rescue cat, and were tagged to
be released after the treatment. Also I watched vet technicians draw blood for testing. Day 2: A corgi came in with a
toothache. Turns out, it was a tumor, but because it was hard, it turned out to be bone cancer. Since it was unremovable
and the dog was in too much pain, he was put down. Day 3: Learned how to take blood test, and a fecal test. A pitt bull
came in with a tumor, but it was not causing any damage. Helped with regular checkups. Day 4: A hunting dog came in that
was pregnant. The owner said he had done all of its breeding before. It had a tumor cause by this, but because she was
already pregnant, Dr.Cooper said it was fine, and he could remove it after she had the puppies. Also a cat came in with a

was in a dog attack. The dogs throat was severely torn, and they couldn't do anything until the dog had calm done. So they
put the dog on oxygen, liquids and blood. Day 7: I learn how to fill and read prescription bottles. I helped with regular
