SPOTWELDING
GENERALDESCRIPTION
Spotweldingisalsoknownasresistancespotweldinganditisthemostsuitablemethodofweldingforautomobiles.Ithasthreemainfeatures:theweldingcanbe
performedinstantaneously,itexercisesverylittleeffectonthemothermaterial,anditreducesthegenerationofdistortiontotheabsoluteminimum.However,please
remembertoremoveallpaintandotherimpuritiesfromthesurfaceofthematerialyouintendtoweldforreliableresults.

WELDINGCONDITIONS
Whenperformingspotwelding,makeabsolutelysurethatyouconformtotheconditionsgovernedbythecurrent,conductivitytime,weldingpressure,holding
time,andshutdowntimerecommendedforthespotwelder.
Pleasebearinmindthefollowingpointswhenwelding:
Platethicknessandminimumweldingpitch

Note:Whentheweldingintervalsaretoosmall,thisleadstobranching,makingitimpossibletomaintainthedesiredsolderingstate.

WELDINGSTRENGTHTEST
Evenifyouperformtheweldinginaccordancewiththeconditions,thestrengthoftheweldedsectionsmayfluctuatewidelywithdropsinthevoltageand
otherfactors.Thequalityoftheweldingcannotbeevaluatedunlesstheweldedsectionsaredestroyed.
Provideyourselfwithasteelplateofthesamethicknessandconductadestructiontest.
Ifholesappearinthesteelplates,thismeansthattheweldingisstandardstrength.
Driveawedgebetweentwopanelsnearthenugget.Iftheweldedpartsdonotcomeapartandthediameterofthenuggetappearsmorethan3
mm,theweldingshouldbesatisfactory.

Note:Itisdifficulttoperformspotweldinginthefollowingcircumstances.
Whenitisnotpossibletoremoveanyrustorpaintattachedtotheweldingsurfaces.
Whenthetipofthespotweldercannotbeinsertedintotheweldingsection.
Whentheweldingsurfacescanbeseenfromtheoutsideandweldingwillimpairtheexteriorappearance.
Inallthesecases,itisrecommendedthatthegasweldingmethodbeemployed.However,ifitisnotpossibletoperformspotweldingbecauseofspace
restrictions,plugweldingbasedonthearcweldingmethodmaybeperformedinstead.Heretheweldingsectionsmustbeclosetogether.

GASWELDING
Gasweldingisindispensableforbodyrepairbecauseofthebroadrangeofitsapplicationsfromjoiningthebodypanels,cuttingthematerialsthatconstructthebodyand
applyingheattoreformpanels,andalsobecauseitiseasytogetholdofthetools.
However,thismethodrequiresexperience.

CARBONDIOXIDEARCWELDER(MIGARCWELDING)
Thisweldingprocessusesinexpensivecarbondioxideinsteadofexpensiveinertgasesasashieldingmeans.Consumablemetalelectrodesareemployed.Ithasa
widerangeofapplications,includingbuttweldingofthinplate,filletwelding,plugwelding,andMIGspotwelding.Intermsoftheweldstrength,itisalsohighlystable.
