Conflict threatens decades of progress for children in Middle East, North Africa
Conflict / War / Nations
Summary of the Event
A. Strides have been made for childrens wellbeing and education in the Middle East and
North Africa. The nearby conflict is threatening to reverse the progress for 157 million
children. The conflict also cause the families of the children to relocate which becomes
unsafe. The UNICEF is trying to protect as many children as possible.
B. There are about 8.4 million children in Syria in need of necessities such as food, water,
and shelter. A large portion of children in war torn areas of Syria still with little help from
outside forces.
C. The UNICEF is currently doing their best to provide educational opportunities for the
Syrian refugees. They have helped vaccinate around 20 million children in refugee-host
countries. A lot of said children are being fed and given mental-support.
World War 2 - This relates to World War 2 because when the war started, they had to endure
quite a lot such as the children now. The children in World War 2 had to ration food and water.
They were evacuated and most of the time had to live with strangers. Just like the kids in the
conflicted areas today. Bombings in Britain and Germany cause many deaths of children during
the war. There was an operation known as Operation Pied Piper which was to evacuate 3.5
million kids in a span of 3 days. Just like now, many child refugees are evacuating their home in
hope of a safer future.
This relates to conflict. This conflict is caused between terrorist groups such as isis.
Technically, this could somewhat count as a conflict between nations since soldiers from other
nations are trying their best to mitigate the threat of the terrorist group. The conflict is growing
tense and costing children their precious future.
