Home Sweet Home isn't a true saying for all people. Take for example those soldiers returning

from the Vietnam war. Home can not even exist for them because of the things they have seen in

life and in war. Home is supposed to be your peaceful place. Soldiers returning from the Vietnam

War in real life and The Things They Carried would argue differently.

In The Things They Carried Norman Bowker loses social skills because of the war. He

loses these social skills because he is suffering from P.T.S.D. Statistics show that 4 out of 100

men develop PTSD while 10 out of 100 women develop P.T.S.D. P.T.S.D is anxiety and

flashbacks triggered by traumatic event. A mental health condition triggered by experiencing or

seeing a terrifying event. Over 3 million people in the USA have and is suffering from PTSD.

Note to americans who have family members dealing with PTSD it can not be cured can only be

treated.

The evidence I found is trustworthy because it is strictly from the government and those veterans

suffering from P.T.S.D. PTSD is a disease that attacks the brain and the mental decision part of

the brain. PTSD stands for post-traumatic stress disorder. I will use this to prove that PTSD can

cause veterans to become socially and emotionally independent.

Real life veterans who have PTSD are often found spending time alone because

they don't know how to cope with the disease. PTSD attacks more than the person brain it attacks

their whole life and those around them. PTSD attacks three parts of your nervous system. The

three parts are social engagement, mobilization, immobilization. Social engagement is the

important strategy of coping with stress and in my belief that is what PTSD is because you have

seen so much and dont how to deal with it.

Norman bowker had PTSD. We know this because he drove around the loop twelve times

and he also did not interact with any of the people around him when he returned home from the

vietnam war. Some of the things he struggled with when returning home was that he wasn't very

much social and he also didn't leave his dad car in The Speaking Of Courage. This is supported

by when he saw sally and didn't say anything because he had lost all his social skills.
