School and Community

Rubidoux High School, established in 1959, is one of three comprehensive


high
schools in the Jurupa Unified School District. It serves approximately 1,600
students
grades 9-12 in a semi-rural environment between Riverside and Jurupa
Valley, California. It is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and
Colleges through 2017.

Rubidoux High School provides a variety of academic programs including


Advanced
Placement, AVID, RECHS, MAAP, and Agriculture. The school is served by one
principal, three assistant principals, four guidance coordinators, a college
and career readiness counselor, a district nurse, a School Resource Officer, a
school psychologist, a mental health counselor, and 82 teachers.

School Population

Eighty-two percent of our 1600 students qualify for the Free/Reduced Lunch
Program.
Approximately 30% of our students are English Learners. Ethnically, Hispanic
students
represent about 90.1% of the student body, White not Hispanic about 5.2%,
African-Americans about 2.8%, Other. Typically, about 15% of the graduating
seniors go directly to four-year universities while about 45% attend
community colleges.

Academics

During the academic year 2016-2017, the AP courses taught include:


Calculus AB &
BC, World History, European History, US History, US Government & Politics,
English Language & Composition, English Literature & Composition, Spanish
Language, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology.

Honors courses were offered in, World History, World Geography, Biology,
Chemistry, and Pre-Calculus. Pre-AP English 9 and English 10.

Students typically carry six classes per semester on a standard six-period


day schedule.
Graduation requirements include two years of mathematics and earning 220
credits in the following criteria:

40 credits English
20 credits Math, including Algebra I (30 credits applies to class of 2019
and beyond)
10 credits World History
10 credits US History
5 credits American Government
5 credits Economics
10 credits Life Sciences
10 credits Physical Sciences
20 credits Physical Education
5 credits Healthy Living
5 credits Vocational Art
10 credits Foreign Language or Fine Art
70 credits electives (60 credits applies to the class of 2019 and
beyond)

In 2016:

127 seniors took the SAT Reasoning Test with the following results:

411 mean Critical Reading


431 mean Math
403 mean Writing

71 students took the ACT with the following results:

16.5 mean English


18.2 mean Mathematics
17.4 mean Reading
17.7 mean Science
17.6 mean Composite
Marking System, Grade Point Average and Class Rank:

Semester grades of A, B, C and D earn 5 credits each. Semester grades of F


earn no
credits. For the computing of grade point average, A= 4 points, B=3 points,
C=2 points,
D=1 point. Honors and Advanced Placement courses are weighted for the
grade point
average with A=5 points, B=4 points, C=3 points, with the exception of Pre-
AP English 9
and 10. D is not a weighted grade.

Rank in class is calculated at the end of semesters with the last ranking
being calculated
at the end of the seventh semester of high school. All grades earned are
used in the
computation of the grade point average.
