Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society (LFVAS) is accepting applications for a Community Connections
Worker. The successful applicant will be a self-directed individual, confident in facilitating cultural
healing teachings in a good Aboriginal way.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the successful applicant will be required to support LFVAS in
organizing, facilitating, and providing group teachings at the Womens Healing Circle, and providing
community teachings to women, men and youth about healthy relationships.

DURATION: May 1, 2017 March 30, 2018

EXTENT: Up to 33 hours per month


Evening meetings
Hours may vary weekly due to program needs

WORK LOCATION: Langley City and Langley Township

COMPENSATION: $20.80 - $22.95/hr, commensurate with education and experience


10.6% in lieu of vacation and holidays

Community Connections Worker

Job Description

Key responsibilities and duties:


Womens Healing Circle
Organize and facilitate weekly Womens Healing Circle meetings.
Promote the group within the community, intake participants.
Invite Elders and guests to participate and provide teachings to the group.
Provide cultural teachings to the group.
Encourage and support participants in areas of healing.
Communicate with participants about areas for program growth and development.

Community Teachings
Develop and disseminate a range of resources about healthy relationships and family
violence from an Aboriginal perspective.
Provide information and resources to community organizations and local schools.
Participate in interagency networks.
Promote and host a talking circle once a month for men and once a month for youth to
teach about healthy relationships, communication skills, anger management tools, and
safety planning.

General
Ensure the program adheres to the budget provided.
Track program statistics and report on activities.
Assist in the program evaluation.
Other related duties as required.

Experience & Education:


Degree or diploma in social work, sociology, mental health or related fields.
Knowledge of, and strong willingness to participate in, Aboriginal culture is required.
Experience in planning, preparing and facilitating activities for adults.
Experience working with vulnerable adults.
Demonstrated proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office 365.
Demonstrated organization and prioritization skills.
Ability to work independently as well as participate as a collaborative team member.

Additional Requirements:
Must have Aboriginal cultural agility and demonstrate appropriate behavioural
competencies.
Ability to perform tasks involving physical activity, including lifting, and bending.
Must successfully complete Criminal Record Review for work with vulnerable adults and
children.
Must sign Oath of Confidentiality.
Primary source credential verification.
Must have a reliable vehicle and a valid BC Class 5 drivers licence.
