Professional development log

Standard 5: Teachers are committed to continuous improvement and professional development.


1. List any workshops, conferences, MCPS courses, and courses outside of MCPS (including school-based or county-wide
training). Indicate the timeframe, e.g. English 6 Training, Summer 2012
85785: Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (Summer 2016)
86230: Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect: Refresher (Fall 2016)
86486: English 8 Cohort Training: 12/8/16, 2/16/17, and 4/25/17
School-based Professional Development sessions, such as SIOP/AVID strategies, LanSchool, etc.

2. How have you shared materials or collaborated with other members of your department?
Continuous PLC planning every Wednesday and Friday during 2nd period, myself and the other 8th grade English teachers (and co-
teachers) would plan lessons and develop materials accordingly. This way, we would ensure that everyone had equally accessible materials
which would benefit all students (as we received input and feedback from the Special Education co-teacher as well).
Additionally, as part of the English 8 Cohort Google Classroom, I have shared materials and insight with other English 8 teachers around the
county.
As for Digital Literacy 2, my fellow teacher and I would not only share materials via Google Drive, but also took a Literacy Day for planning
out an entire quarter of the course together, even with a limited curriculum.

3. Did you complete any peer visits with reflection? (if yes, be specific with the kind of classes and number of inside/outside
of school observations)
I completed several peer visits to observe other teachers in my department(s). However, with regard to peer visits with reflection, I have
only completed one. I observed another teacher in my school and this particular observation was completed during a Digital Literacy 2 class
in an attempt to note formal assessment strategies, such as exit tickets and how the curriculum we collaborated on could utilize such
components.

4. Other
In an attempt to pursue my passions, I have recently taken the Praxis II for ESOL certification and passed. I hope to officiate this new
certification as soon as possible and utilize it in my third year of teaching.
