YOU Be the Teacher- Oceanography

Lesson Plan Template

Teacher Names: Sean, Sebastian, Javier

Objectives (What should students be able to do at the end of this lesson?)

To be able to identify parts of the ocean and what parts the organisms live in.
You need to address all content

Instructional Procedures
Opening Hook for Learning (How will I gain students attention?)
Details in the hands on project What is the hook?

Direct Instruction (How will I present material and make learning relevant?)

By engaging students in a 3D hands-on model of the ocean. They will be doing a matching game based off of clues given to
them. Need details, and how will they know? Where and when will they have learned the content?

Guided Practice (How will I model/practice what students have learned?)

With an actual model so students can work on the project hands on. Theyre gonna flick a spinner, and pick 1 out of the 5. Read
the information and match it to the sea creature. Then, you match the creature to the wall in their ocean habitat.

Independent Practice (How will I have students practice what that have learned independently?)

Trial & Error (Repetition.) What is this ?

Closing: (How can I bring closure to summarize learning and enhance retention of the material?)

They will create a justification of which zone a sea creature lives, the distance, & one marine animal that lives in the same zone.
questions;
What are hydrothermal vents? An opening in the sea floor out of which heated mineral rich water flows.
The ocean zone that sunlight penetrates is Epipelagic
The ocean zone characterized by high water pressure, low temperatures, and no sunlight is abyssal zone Is this a quiz?

Assessment (How will you assess if your students understand key concepts?)

They have to be able to have an understanding of the layers of the ocean, and the organisms that live in each layer.

What are the means of assessment? You should have 3 identified

Materials/Resources Needed

small trifold board, fishing line, small plastic sea creatures, round dowels, spray paint,

Plan of Action to Prepare (What needs to be done to prepare teaching this lesson? Who will do what?)

We need to prepare a comparison worksheet & we need to gather information based around our topic.

This needs to be a bullet list with each person identified who will complete the task

First, students will be linked to an E-maze. They will jot down information from the E-maze to help in the
matching game. From the emaze you will choose an organism and place it onto the board where it lives to
ensure you know the content of the ocean biome. After that, a quiz will be taken to determine how much the
students know about the layers of the ocean.
