ESA Unit 2: Constructive Responses

One night you happen to turn on the television, and you hear
the meteorologist describing how much hotter it is in downtown
Atlanta than Alpharetta. You know one of the mechanisms that
lift air is responsible, but you cant remember which one. You
find your old Earth Systems notes. Write below the 4 types and
then CIRCLE the one responsible. Explain your answer.

Speculate on the changes in global temperatures that might

occur if Earth had substantially more land area and less ocean
area than it does at present. How might such changes influence
the biosphere? Explain your answer.

If carbon dioxide and water vapor were completely depleted,

would life forms be able to survive? Explain your answer.
List and Explain how each of the 5 natural processes change
climate.

A student submitted the following labeled cloud diagram. Find

all errors and CORRECT them.

Guiding Question:
What will the weather likely be
tomorrow in Minneapolis?
Claim:

Evidence: Justification:
During the weather report the meteorologist announces an El Nino and La
Nina contest to win $500. She explains that there were some breakdowns
in the food chains of marine life due to one of these phenomenon. She tells
you at the end of her announcement to go visit:
http://www.environmentalscience.org/el-nino-la-nina-impact-environment
to figure out if it is an El Nino or La Nina responsible, and to explain what
happened to cause these breakdowns. While visiting the site, complete the
following chart:
Guiding Question: Which phenomenon is responsible for the
breakdowns in the marine life food chains?

Justification:
Global Warming is a controversial topic in our society. There are those who
say it is true, and then there are those who say it is completely false.
Review the following websites, and then formulate your own claim
supported by evidence from the articles:

Read the following sample of work from a student when

describing weather tools, what they measure, and how they help
predict weather. Find the errors, and then explain why they are
incorrect.

An anemometer measures the air pressure and looks like this:

If air pressure should increase, then that means it will be a
stormy
day. If it should decrease, then it will be fair weather.
Any Issues? Make sure to explain.

A barometer measures the wind direction outside. If it points to

the east that means the wind is blowing toward the east. If it
points to the west that means it is blowing toward the west.
Any issues? Make sure to explain.
A wind vane measures the wind speed. The number of times
around it spins in a time period (like 10 seconds) will tell you
how windy it is at that time.
Any issues? Make sure to explain.
