If a criminal is breaking into your house you have the right to
use force to stop him. You do not have to wait till after he shoots you
or stabs you. You can fire first and you do not lose the right to claim
self defense. After all, he was the one breaking into your home.

This law is sometimes called the Castle Doctrine. In Louisi-


ana it is embodied in two statutes that are called R.S. 14:19 and 14:20.
