MELBOURNE WATER POSITION DESCRIPTION

ELECTRICAL ASSET MANAGEMENT ENGINEER


REPORTS TO: DIRECT REPORTS:
Team Leader, Control Systems Team None

THIS ROLE EXISTS TO: (PURPOSE)


The Electrical Asset Management Engineer will work as part of a team to deliver and drive Asset
Management outcomes for the portfolio of ETP Asset Management across the Eastern Treatment
Plant including instrumentation, drives, switch gear, cathodic protection systems, fire suppression
and various other Low Voltage & High Voltage related assets across Melbourne Waters broader asset
base.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Implement Asset Management Policy and Strategy for Melbourne Waters Electrical Assets.
Investigate Asset management related problems and electrical asset performance shortfalls
or other related issues and develop solutions to those shortfalls, including non-infrastructure
options.
Development of Strategic Asset Management Plans associated with Electrical Assets.
Business case development, project initiation and participation with project delivery relating
to electrical assets.
Co-ordination and management of programs of activity e.g. minor capital renewals
Co-ordination and participation in value engineering e.g. safety in design, HAZOP, etc.
Development and implementation of optimization and/or risk reduction improvement
programs/projects for electrical assets.
Optimization of asset maintenance activities, problem solving and provision of technical
advice on Electrical Assets and network.
Taking care of own and colleagues Health and Safety through identification and reporting of
hazards and active involvement in improvement initiatives.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

A knowledge of electrical engineering including the various types of equipment found in the
water and sewerage systems and treatment process or other equivalent industry processes.
This includes emerging technologies;
Experience in and well developed knowledge of electrical engineering including high voltage
(up to 22kV) and low voltage plant and equipment relating to water supply and treatment
assets;
Experience in the critical analysis of solution options and associated financials (eg NPV,
construction estimates);
Well-developed experience with corporate IT systems (eg, MS Office, Maximo, etc);
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of project planning, management and business
case preparation;
Knowledge of asset management processes and risk assessment techniques including asset
management plans and Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM).
Experience in the design, development and maintenance of complex asset systems.
Knowledge of operational complexities of Water Supply, Drainage and Sewerage Systems.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal
Consult and constructively work with Operational Teams, Major Program Delivery and other
Asset Management Teams.
Ability to work across teams and develop strong working relationships broadly across
Melbourne Water.
External
Liaise with Melbourne Water partners in delivery of maintenance services and minor/major
capital project delivery.
Liaise with Melbourne Water partners in deliver of maintenance services and capital projects.
Consult with regulatory authorities outside Melbourne Water.
SALARY RANGE:

$88,849 - $96,049 plus 9.5% superannuation

This role requires the following:


Tertiary Qualification in Electrical Engineering.
Vaccinations are optional, but recommended.
Location: Eastern Treatment Plant, Thompson Rd, Bangholme 3197, or at other metropolitan sites,
as required, to carry out the duties and function of the position.
