COMMUNITY SUPPORT: ITS IMPACT ON THE DROP-OUT REDUCTION PROGRAMS OF THE

SCHOOL
(An Action Research Proposal)

I Proponent: JERRY G. FIRMANES

Teacher III/TIC

Introduction

Every Filipino believes that education is, indeed, the key to solve problems deeply rooted in poverty.
Most of us dream of a better life and willing to do every positive means to reach that dream. We have, as a
matter of fact, always considered education as the most valuable gift parents can give to their children, a
treasure that can never be stolen and the best way to achieving a brighter future.

It is a known fact, however, that such dream is hindered because of so many factors affecting the
attendance of the students in school. High school students, especially the girls fall victims to lifes tests.
Poverty, illness, family problems are the usual reasons why students drop from the roll.

The incidence of high drop-out rate is evidenced by the reports submitted to the planning unit of the
Division of Sorsogon. In Manlabong National High School alone, the dropout rate for the last three years was
5%, 5% and 4% respectively. The reports show alarming statistical data particularly along drop-out rates.
Considering the figures, school administrators need to think of interventions that would trim down statistics.

Thus, this action research proposal is crafted in response to the above-stated problem.

School?

c. Home visits

5. What is the impact of the support extended to the drop-out reduction program of the school?
a. Highly effective
b. Moderately effective
c. Ineffective
6. Is there a significant relationship between:
a. The profile of drop-outs and drop-out rate?
b. The level of community support to the drop-out reduction program and the drop-out rate?
