ARTAS Engineering Software offers its software SAM in three levels and two licensing options:

Professional: kinematics + kinetostatics + optimization

Standard: kinematics + kinetostatics
Light: kinematics only

Node locked The software is licensed on a single, specifically identified computer, and can only
run on that computer. When a node locked product is installed on a computer, some specific
information is gathered which allows that particular computer to be uniquely identified. This
information is called a fingerprint which is sent to ARTAS, during the activation process and a
unique license is generated that works only with that fingerprint. If the software needs to be
moved to another computer please contact us for support.

Network or Floating The license (or multiple licenses) reside on a central server of the customer
called a license server. The product software is installed on client computers and when the product
software is started, it checks out a license from the license server. When the product software is
terminated on the client, the license is checked in and is available for another client to use.

* Perpetual: the license will never expire, and the software will be able to run forever. The software can
upgraded to the latest version at reduced costs taken all intermediate upgrade steps into account.
** Annual: the license will expire on a certain date (normally a year after purchase, although a different period
can be discussed) and the software will not be able to run any more unless you prolong the contract. At each new
contract you will receive a license key to the latest version of the software.
*** Classroom Kit A classroom kit (educational institutes only) consists of 100 floating licenses for the institute,
one node locked license for the professor/teacher plus 100 annual student licenses for distribution to students
and use on their personal PC/laptop (the student licenses require internet access during use of the software).

Multiple license discount

When purchasing multiple licenses, the following discount on the total sales volume is applied.

Important Multiple floating licenses can only be installed and used at one single geographic location. The licenses

Upgrading discount
The table shows the price discount when upgrading from an older version of SAM to the most
recent version without changing the level of the license (light > standard > professional) or
changing from a node locked to a floating license. The additional costs for switching to a
higher level or from a node locked to a floating license can simply be calculated from the price
difference (see previous tables).

* The levels light/standard/professional where introduced as of release SAM 6.0. All previous versions are
considered to be equivalent with the standard level.

Example: Upgrading costs of SAM 6.0 Standard to SAM 7.0 Professional amount to 952,50
Euro and consist of 30%*1425,-(= 427,50) for the upgrade SAM 6.0 Standard to SAM 7.0
Standard plus 525,- price difference SAM 7.0 Standard vs. SAM 7.0 Professional.

Upgrading an older industry multi-user license

The current licensing scheme does no longer support the old multi-user license, being a
license that allowed the customer to install the software on an unlimited number of
computers. Instead we have introduced a pricing scheme in which additional licensing become
cheaper as the number of licenses increases. Furthermore and in-line with industry practice,
we have introduced the concept of floating licenses, again with a significant discount as the
number of licenses increases.

In order to facilitate a smooth transition to the new licensing scheme, we offer our existing
industry customers a unique transition option. All current industry multi-user licenses can be
converted to any number of multiple licenses (node locked or floating) and the upgrading to
the current version SAM 7.0 will be the regular percentage of 20% of the corresponding first-
time-buy value of the chosen number of licenses .

To illustrate this concept we will assume that you decide to convert your current industry
multi-user license SAM 6.0 Professional to 5 node locked licenses SAM 7.0 Professional. The
equivalent first-time-buy value of these 5 node locked licenses amounts to 70%*5*1950 =
5850,- and thus the 20% upgrade costs equal 1365,-.

Without additional costs the customer could have chosen for a conversion to 5 floating
licenses, which represent a much higher first-time-buy value. As mentioned before, this
conversion is free of charge, however one should be aware of the fact that a higher first-time-
buy value also implies higher upgrade costs (now and in the future) since the cost of an
upgrade represent a certain percentage of the installed software value.
