Lesson Title: Color Mixing Fun

Focus/Purpose: The students will learn the correct name of colors to complete a project.
The students will be mixing and creating colors to complete a work of art.

VA.10.CO1.K.1 Use personal experiences and choices in making artworks.


Standards:
VA.2.CR2.K.1 Through experimentation, build skills in various media and
approaches to art-making.

For example:
Objectives: 1) Students will compare and contrast colors by selecting two
different primary color paints.
2) Students will identify similarities and differences between
colors by creating a color wheel.
3) Students will share final projects by engaging in partner
discussions or circle time.

appropriate circles. Formative assessments will be made when the students
name all the colors after they are done mixing.

Differentiation: Modifications = Students who are unable to mix colors may receive a

Procedure OPEN: (1 min)
Talk about my love of art/ painting and how relaxing it can be.

BODY:
(4 min)
-Pass out plates and paints to all students.
-Direct students to draw 6 circles on paper plate.
-In every other circle add a primary color (red, blue, yellow)
-In the circles in between mix a little of each color to create secondary
colors (i.e red and blue=purple, blue and yellow=green)
(3 min)
-Used mixed colors to create a small finger painting
CLOSE: (2 min)
-Clean off hands
-Share color mixing wheels and finger painting creations with classmates.
