Assignment (1)
How to Calculate Gas PVT properties

The well stream composition of gas mixture taken from a PVT report is illustrated below in Table 1.

Table 1 Well-stream Compositions from PVT Report

Component Mole %
CO2 0.18
N2 0.13
Methan 61.92
Ethan 14.08
Propan 8.35
Iso-butane 0.97
n-butane 3.41
Iso-pentane 0.84
n-pentane 1.48
Hexanes 1.79
Heptanes plus 6.85
Total= 100
Heptanes-Plus Properties
Specific gravity at 60/60F =0.795
Molecular weight = ????

Reservoir temperature is 186F. Given the above gas composition and using the proper correlations and
methods you have learned from Chapter-2 lectures, you are required to determine:

The gas deviation factor (z-factor), Isothermal gas compressibility factor, Gas formation volume
factor, and Gas viscosity at the following pressure range:

Also you are required, using excel spread sheet, to calculate the pseudo-gas potential m(p)
which is defined by the following
equation:
HINT:
14.7 2
() = 2 [ ] . Draw the pressure vs. and
.
.
calculate the area under the curve
where using Trapezoidal rule.

() : Pseudo-gas potential (2 /).

() is then calculated as the
summation of the areas under the
P: Pressure record, psia curve.

: Gas viscosity ().

Plot m(p) vs P and fit the plotted data
: Gas deviation factor. to the best polynomial equation using
excel trend line tool.

Assignment is due for submission on 8 April and you can directly communicate with Heba for any
clarifications. The assignment will not be accepted after the above date for any reasons.
